Serah POV

“You're right. He's a half wolf. To his benefit, he only received the best part of both, heightened senses and immunity to toxins made for wolves.”

“So you are telling me that he would smell then, even odorless?”

Kamil looked at him with pride, as if it was his own kid.

“Indeed. But the main reason he's here is that he imprinted the scent of that mysterious man, so if he's near, he'll  know right away.”

That was useful information.

But I still had a worry in heart.

“Isn't he too young to partake on the mission?”

My eyebrows were not willing to detach from one another.

And before Kamil could talk the young man defended his position.

“Luna Serah, it is my pride and honour to serve you with the best of my abilities. Please, let me prove to you and the pack my usefulness!”

The teenager stood straight hands behind his back and gazed straight at me.
I wouldn't discuss Kamil's decision but I had seen so many of them die for me that we couldn't have a kid to be taken away too soon.

“Serah, I do worry too but he's our best chance and I vowed to protect him myself. Even if you doubt his capacity to survive, have your trust in me.
I'll keep you'all safe.”

I couldn't fight against his assurance but I didn't hundred percent like this.

“So shall we go then?”

Wolves ahead, although their movements were swift and unpredictable I could still hear the ruffling of the leaves around.

The colors were oversaturated but as Olsen said I could control the weight of my ability.

I tried it with my hearing but it was to no avail; I heard everything  even if I didn't want to. However my vision I could play with it as if I was born with that x-ray ability to discern warmth from cold.

It was simply instinct.

But if I wanted to see nothing but darkness I could.
Humans or wolves, our body temperature was not even comparable.

How many minutes had it been since the air was blowing my hair away, my lashes fighting against pressure itself but its capabilities were uncontested still.

Kamil’s warmth spread through his fur and the way the bones on his back moved I could tell that we were almost here.

The brown leaves, almost dirt, were trampled on and were swallowed by the ground.

The paws were labouring the back of my property.
My heart fell into nostalgia, with all the memories that I locked between those enchanted walls.

Love, family and that longing that I never knew where it came from.

It was undeniable that I was in front of my house but was it still home.

My family, bonds founded on lies, all started to dismember when I met Jess then I learned about Kevin.

The gates opened without even the slightest bug, the code was the same.

Now, it was time to plot.

The wolves that were ahead, already placed themselves all around the property. And us four, Kamil, Elliott and Olsen were left to decide.

The men seeked privacy for shifting and even without looking, we could hear their bones, remodeling themselves to look human.

“So what do we do?”

I questioned Olsen who was still searching for whatever truth she was looking for.

The woman in bright white coat looked at me and said nothing, her finger scratched through her head but her clarity was still out of reach.

“We just stay here and we'll ask them to wait for us from outside.”

That would have been the best plan, but there were simply too many of them to keep everyone outside. For our safety it would be great to at least have Kamil inside or that guy Eliott.

“Serah! Take care of this. Let me go inside. I need to put your sample in the fridge, like ASAP.”

I put my hand to my forehead, why would she need to bring all of this when she could simply take fresh blood from me.

Whatever, the code was used and a singular grinning heard all beings that had ears around the perimeter.

Most of our escorts flinched but it wouldn't last long, it had been a while that the mechanism was not used so it was a bit rusty.

The girl ran inside but how would she enter without the keys. Her head turned towards me realising that she would need me before she could advance further.

I chuckled a bit and shouted at her what she wanted.

“On the window sill, behind a pot.”

She went ahead without letting me finish. Whatever, it was none of my business now.

“Serah, let’s go inside.”

That was the tricky part.

“Kamil, I need to talk to you alone.”

I mindlinked the man and our eyes closed the silent contract. He dismissed his men and I pursued the conversation in our head.
I believed it was the safest of ways as we all here could use that super hearing thing.

“So, I would need you all outside of the walls, just the time we find a way to get out of here.”

The man grimaced, he didn't look like he liked the idea too much.

“If you estimate the situation too dangerous or that the rogues somehow found us, just come inside  with everyone. The code is 85A20. You just need to cover for us, I will let the door open.”

Kamil did not look composed. But he let go of his inspiration.

“Tell me when could I estimate the situation dangerous if I don't have any news from you.”

That was a great question that I had no idea the answer to.

“Kamil, it would be around 48 hours. We'll be safe. I will take care of Olsen, I just need time.”

The man bowed, not reassured but it was a job done by Olsen.
I didn't know how she convinced him but he will be our greatest ally and most probably our life line.

I mirrored his respect and ran inside.

Not that I was scared that Olsen would mess up my house but more about the fact that she would probably turn it into a white soulless building in minutes.

I could picture her stupid face smiling at the idea.

Unconsciously I did smile too.

But to be clearly honest, it was the best plan if we wanted to get all the people that weren't involved at the first degree out of the equation.

It was a problem that needed to be resolved by the actual people concerned.

Each of the steps I made, made my heart wince.

The memory of my grandma, her warnings, her training that no human child should have gone through.
But it was fun and  was a bowl of fresh air in an enclosed household.

Until it made sense.

I pushed the door open, and what I saw poured ice into my veins.

The plan was a failure, even before it started.

Olsen looked at me, sorry that she couldn't do anything to prevent what was happening.
