Serah POV

"Someone who wants to see our whole species extinct."

My stomach churned to the revelation, I was convinced that we were fighting rogues but what if we were wrong all along.

...

But something out of this story would make sense to me.

"Then it would make sense for Kevin's father to want me, if I could be a solution to save his son, maybe he'll wage a war against whoever who'll interfere with his plans."

Eos glued his lips together to form a not so convinced face.

"His father was never really part of his life, Kevin never even met him, only aunt Inhana knows about him and she was particularly discrete with this matter. I don't even know how he'll know, I found Kevin right after the attack and brought him to New Zealand, nobody knows about this matter apart from the council. And nothing leaks from the council, it has been so since father was part of it."

"But cannot one of them be his father?"

The man started laughing as if I said the most nonsensical thing.

"It wasn't a bad interpretation but these old folks all have their mates and family, they won't take a single risk that could endanger their packs or their family. Moreover, these people abhor the rogues more than anything, working with them would be a complete blasphemy."

It did make sense, but from what I recoil, the man in front of me didn't look like he would harm me, he needed me and he was ready to sacrifice anyone or anything for his idealistic world. But I was not to be harmed.

I almost felt kindness, it would have made sense if it was Kevin's father.

Or, I might want to feel my delusion.

The cold wind played with my hair, some were stuck on my lashes.

My uncle's finger made sure to delicately move away the obstruction.

"Serah, there will be a time where you'll need to make a choice. Your mom hid you from our world so you wouldn't have to deal with your fate, but you saw how it caught up to you. My sole advice for you would be to face the danger head on and be prepared. Mom knew this time would come, I'm persuaded that she knew from the moment your grandpa disappeared and she was a hundred percent certain; when that weird man delivered the prophecy...

She knew that you'll find the reason why our father disappeared."

"Is that why mom was scared for me?"

"Your mom was scared that your fate would be similar... I understand her...But the bond you have with her is something I can't even imagine, so we had no say in her decision.

I would have loved to train you when you were little."

"You trained me!"

"But I wasn't using my powers, it would have been fun to scare you."

I side pushed the man that was laughing shamelessly next to me.

Why would he want to torment a little kid?

Soon enough, he brought me closer to him and my head fell on his shoulder.

"I would need to stay beside Kevin, so his recovery would be complete, on top of that a few delegates from the foreign royalty are here to sign an alliance with the shifters. I would need to everlook the meetings as we might learn more about who could have injured Kevin."

His words vibrated on the top of my head. I acquiesced with a small sound that never left my mouth.

"So did I only come here to see Kevin?"
