Serah POV
My lashes were stuck together; sticking to each other like dear life. My tears dried and now, my skin was falling off from the peeling.
No superpowers could soothe the pain, we were all equal to our doom.
At some point, I forced open my eyes, ignoring the stir.
The light was off, so the day, as the sun didn’t try to peek through the curtains. But I could still see and my phone stood out.
My heart sank in a place where no hand could reach, but somehow I still wanted to hear his voice.
That same drowning heart filled itself with a courage that came from an unknown place.
It was what I needed to switch on that device.
The white letters shone through the room making my pupils retract severely.
The burn was bearable but not the hundreds of notifications that manifested the moment the phone was connected.
I ignored them all and went for the call.
I didn’t hear it rang that someone was already at the other side.
“Serah?!”
“Jay.”
My voice couldn´t be louder than a whisper.
“Serah?! Tell me what the hell happened! I felt you break down, I could feel it and you weren't answering anymore. Are you hurt?”
The man was slurring every word in hurry, his sentences were half finished that he had already started another one.
I almost felt the panic through his words.
“Jay, give me five seconds, I just need to hear your voice.”
He paused, and resumed, but this time way more calmly.
As if he knew he stopped interrogating me and simply started some small talk.
I didn't have the energy to reply back but that presence of his was heartwarming making me forget all my frustration and sadness.
A tear slided again remembering how weak of a person I was.
Guilt was forming in my throat.
I was in the middle of two hearts, hurting one and finding comfort in another.
While altogether doubting my feelings, doubting my will in my commitment.
…
The day prickled eyelids, coloring them in a bright red, opening them this time was easier.
The big was enough to bear a whole family but I was here, heavier than most.
Engulfing in the mattress ready to be swallowed by these expensive sheets.
My head was hurting from all the noise in there.
My body was paralyzed but it was easy to remember that it was up to me if I wanted to move.
I was stirred up when a voice surprised me.
“Did you wake up?”
I almost choked on my own saliva when his timber hit me to the core. The phone was still on, I turned towards the screen and indeed, the call never ended.
“Jay, are you still there?”
My morning words were not expected to be these.
“Yeah, I assumed you fell asleep when I heard your soft sonores.”
