Jayson POV

“Theo, get our men in position.”

It was war.

Our organisation was flawless, we learnt from Ice Moon.

There wasn’t even one square of this land not covered.

I had to protect the pack, annihilate the enemy, hence I'll have my happy ending.

I would need our people safe too.

How many of us will be sacrificed today?

My heart beat faster and ruffles announced my men behind.

The border was safe, the ground magnitude was strangely the same and the birds were as loud as ever.

I wasn’t a biologist or anything but it wasn’t normal.

The whole ecosystem acted with the habits of a peaceful day.
As if a horrendous sentence wasn’t about to be pronounced.

Kamil was an expert in war fields.

He would know.

I took out a phone that was mostly dead but with Serah out of reach I couldn’t permit myself to have no contact with her, not at this time.

The phone rang and he responded to me instantly.

“Kamil, the battlefield is too loud and I can’t even feel any presence coming towards us.”

The man took time to answer as if he was occupied.

“Alpha Jay, I believe that the battlefield was meant to be where Serah was.”

Blood boiled, ready to burst my veins open, my jaw tightened and heart sank with its pressure.

“What do you mean? Are you circled ? How many of them are there ? How long could you hold up?”

My eyes were becoming red and and ready to murder the first rogues coming by.

“Jay they are not a lot nor did they made us aware of their presence but to be honest, Serah told me something I couldn't shake off earlier.”

“What do you mean?”

That girl I was going to lock her up if she did something stupid.

“She's not letting us in as we planned and she's asking for 48 hours as if she was going on an excursion.
If you give me the order I'll force my way in with my men but if you estimate the pack safe I would need you to send us some reinforcement.”

My fingers met at the bridge of my nose.
I was praying to the Moon Goddess that she didn’t try anything stupid.

“Get her now!”

The voice in my head talked. And he wasn’t in the slightest playing.

I hissed and called for Theo.

“Theo, we’re changing plans. I'm taking two of my groups with me right now, you take care of the pack.”

I felt the restlessness in his voice.

“Jay what do you mean?”

“The war zone is following Serah, so I'm going to her”

I was about to cut the mind link but my beta forced the way in.

“Jay let us come to, even if the battlefield is outside of the pack she's our Luna and it is our duty to protect her, and two groups is nearly enough-”

“Theo, all I'm asking you is to protect those you truly cherish. I'll take care of Serah.”

I cut him off as well as the mind link.

“Jayson run towards her or I will.”

Volker was agitated, and my paws started to hit the ground as I was planted on my position.
The animal was asking for control and clearly wanted to dominate our mind space.

Gratefully, we did have the same goal but I still needed to make some order before letting the beast on loose.

“Group East and South East follow me.”

The shifted men didn’t even talk back the order.

Voler was growing impatient, so was I.

“It's your turn.”

A growl unleashed the dormant power and I was rudely moved towards the back of my mind.
My vision became a tunnel where the light was slowly getting smaller.

I let my awareness fall into an endless pit; with my utmost trust towards the beast that shared half consciousness.

He loved her more than he did ourselves. Even if he had put me in pieces to save her he would.

Swallowed by darkness I was running on trust.
From the inside my muscles were breaking, my joints were pressured enough for my bones to lose their original structure.

Shifting was already a crude processus. Though we eventually got used to it, what was going on right now would leave sequels for months on my body.

Volker was defying our natural limits, the speed, the clarity.

Light slightly spread towards me, as my wolf was kind enough to let me see what was going on.

My eyes fluttered and pain jolted in places I didn't know existed.

The environment was overly saturated but my time was running, as I was standing on adrenaline.

Realisation fell upon me, we were all alone.
With my men on the ground, unconscious, and I couldn't even sense my mate.

“Kamil!”

I called in my head. My brain fog was gaining territory and it was hard to distinguish my own pack members.

He wasn't answering.

The blood mixed and my head wasn't sharp enough to comprehend my environment but somehow, I made it inside the house.

Here he was.

“Kamil!”

I shouted out but he was unwavering, unmoving…

His body was still and the noise was turned off.

Fear took over and crouched to his body and I started looking through his wretched clothes.

I took out the phone and to my utmost joy the password was Briah's birthday.

Seeing the numbers was a challenge itself now I couldn't choose who to call through his recent calls.

Someone answered, but my head was already seeing the stars.

“It's an emergency, Serah's house…”

It took all my strength to talk and everything blurred.
Until it went black.
