Serah POV
"Looking down, is for those who have time, you don't so only look forward, you may find the answer ahead. If it was at your feet, life would be less enjoyable. Here take this. Go and change yourself."
The soft material fell in my hand, hurried to get away. It was a Chiffon. I couldn't even see what shape it had. Jess pulled me away from the counter and led me to the dressing room.
"Sorry about that, I should have told you the story when you asked."
In my head, resonated her apology.
The folklore was only a facade, the real lesson was that I needed power, I needed the soul of my packmates to stand with me.
Without that even if I was the chosen mate of Jay, I wouldn't have any credibility to rule next to him.
"You'll have to brief me later."
The beige curtain opened on its own, thank you Jess, and closed behind. I was left with only my reflection.
Every piece of my clothing peeled off my skin, to embrace the ground.
With the same softness, the light material clinged to my body.
I put on the last strap as I viewed myself every step into this amazing gown.
Simple yet so elegant.
Both women urged me out of the fitting room and when the curtain opened, Jess gasped, gathering her hands to her mouth, that other woman, her eyes twitched.
It wasn't much of a reaction but knowing her now, it was already much.
"Great, it's this one."
...
The doorknob twinkled, almost teasing us into opening the kitchen door. The cold metal was in my hand and when the wooden door cracked open; the girl next to me shoved me aside, almost introducing me to the floor.
I cast her an evil glare internally cussing at her antics, here it hit, the heavy smell of pork gravy.
I never knew why meat had the power to bewitch an entire community, even now that I share some of their characteristics.
Jessica entered, and all eyes turned towards her. She was magnetic, her smile, her stance, her childish behavior. My lips curved slightly for the last one, she did try to get ahead of the queue but she was gently denied.
As soon as her presence faded, the eyes went on me, and the air changed. There wasn't any blatant disrespect but everyone was walking on eggshells around me.
That woman's voice echoed in my head, and per habits I would have ignored their uncomfortable gaze but this time I tried to force my muscles to play a smile for those who at least acknowledged me.
Some bowed discreetly, some, their face never left the ground-
"Hi Luna Serah!"
Some masculine voice pushed me out of my observation, and I directed my eyes towards the voice in my back.
There I could see a man, eating with a bunch of friends.
For a second I forgot who he was but his presence was enough to remind me of his two little sisters.
Again, I was getting out of my comfort zone, I would have simply waved back but this time, I needed to socialize.
Like a big girl, instead of following my goldy guide, I marched towards the crowded table, even if my palms were getting wetter by the second.
