Jayson POV

"Was he in his office? It's been a few days since I haven't seen them. Do you think they're are still at it? Shhh.. You'ré being too loud."

Giggles were playing in the halway, echoing through the walls until they haunted my ears.
I made sure to be left alone, until I found a way to justify Serah's absence.

"Are you planning to stay cooped up in your office?"

My beta didn't how to show his empathy.
With my mate leaving me, the day I wanted to make things official.
Without even an explication, all I could was trust her but I couldn't wash away the humiliation.
So indeed, I had to hide the little left of my pride while waiting for her.

I let gravitation pull my eyelids close, and so followed my eyebrows.

I couldn't even put words on what was going on in the bond.

"Until I find a way to explain why our marking had to be delayed, I won't be facing the crowds."

My fingers reached for the stack of white paper in front of me.
I had to distract myself or I would lose it.

The girl who was snacking on my couch said.

Legs on the table, her hand gripping the soundful plastic bag, and I could swear, I saw crumbs falling off her mouth.

"Jay, you'll need to come out eventually, I don't think Serah would come back any time soon. So if you planned to wait for her, you need to find another solution."

Her head fell on top of her mate's shoulder as he patted her hair gently.
Her golden strands intertwined in his fingers as if they were meant to interlock.
I would be lying if I said that I wasn't envious.
Her brown hair carefully wrapped on my handle, while my grip would tighten...
My desire towards that woman only grew, as I would have put the world at her feet if she didn't scurry off, to who knew where.
I should stop hurting myself.

"With that smart mouth of yours, tell me what should I say to the pack then."

Irritation dripped from my tone, silencing the girl into smashing some chips.
She got louder in the quiet room.

I was about to pull my hair, to shake my brain drowning in my skull full of trash thoughts.
There was nothing useful to squeeze out.

"Why not ask Serah? She's the one who put you on spot.?"

Theo said without looking back to me but Jess took the initiative to answer.

"Just take my phone, we've been texting since yesterday."

My eyes were wide open, even though the mate bond enabled me to somehow have her every emotion in check, I couldn't communicate with her.
Why didn't I think of it earlier?
It might be because I was scared to hear whatever she'd have to say, or to take another hundred steps back for whatever reason.
I was scared of my own reaction.

My dark turmoil was cut off by the phone in my hand now.

Blue eyes that mirrored mine spoke with conviction.

"Text her, she won't answer now."

She retreated while picking up her mate on the way. They turned their heads one last time before leaving behind only the loud sound of the knob.

Pushed myself away from the desk, with the phone in hand.
I didn't bother reading their messages and called her instantly.
A few seconds went by, but no one answered.
