Chapter 32: Shades of Reason

Darth Maul stood alongside his brother, Savage Opress, and companion, Jack Swinger, overlooking the map of Sundari, the Mandalorian capital as Pre-Vizsla and Bo-Katan Kryze walked in to assist with the plan. "Where are my targets?" Maul asked. "We've indentified them at these locations," Vizsla said, altering the map of Sundari and showing red spots. "However, like I've said before. If we try to take Mandalore by force, our people will turn against us," he added in a calm tone. "I will use my army of crime lords to attack different targets across Sundari and sow chaos to undermine the Duchess' rule. Our gangsters will make her look too weak to maintain control. Then you and your Death Watch will capture and arrest us, bringing order, where Satine's weak government could not," Maul explained. It was still funny to him that Vizsla acted like he was in complete control, when in actual fact, he was just a puppet being used by Maul, who was following through with his masters orders, no one except Jack and Savage knew this of course.

"We'll be saviours," Vizsla grinned. "Exactly," Maul responded. "Indeed. I'll prepare the troops," Bo said as she walked away, along with everyone else whilst Maul, Savage, and Jack stayed inside the tent. Alone. As they were alone, Maul called his Emperor once more. "Vizsla will attempt to betray you. He sees you as a means to an end. However, we have a plan for that," Malidictus said as Maul and the other two looked at him. "We?" He asked. Just then, Satine stepped into view. "Greetings Darth Maul," she said. "Duchess, but...why are you on Dathomir?" Maul asked. "Oh, I'm not. But I have been patched in to this call thanks to the Grand Emperor," Satine responded. "My lord, I'm confused," Maul admitted. "Do not worry my right hand. I asked for Satine's presence. You see, we have been aware of Death Watch's increased support, and the fact that Satine is loosing public trust. Thus, she called me to assist, not with maintaining control, but to not let Mandalore fall to Death Watch, as well as keep her life. So, me and her have created a plan that fits both our aspects. Remember when I said we need to draw out Sidious?" He asked, to which Maul nodded. "Well it just so happens that we needed a cover story to lure him out, and this opportunity we have, gives us that. You and your crime lords will let events play out, and Satine will be arrested, but once you are in the cell, that, is where things start to change. Alert me when you are at that stage, Satine knows what the plan is, and I asked for her presence so she knows to recognise you. Am I clear?" He asked. "Yes my lord," all three agents said before both the duchess and Malidictus disconnected. "Well that wasn't confusing at all," Jack said sarcastically. "What our emperor is saying, is that we are to let events play out naturally, until we are arrested, and Satine is imprisoned. When we are imprisoned, we are to call him and he will let us know the next stage of the plan. What's not to understand?" Maul asked calmly. Jack just shrugged as Savage spoke up. "Either way, we need to keep our act up, and act surprised when Vizsla inevitably betrays us," he said as the other two nodded in agreement. Jack sighed, this whole day was already confusing to him, and it wasn't even lunch yet!

Eventually, the plan was in motion and the crime syndicates had snuggled their way onto cargo transports which had landed on Sundari's docks. Eventually, the docks were overrun, and the whilst the black sun attacked the people, the Pykes controlled the docks. All throughout the city, vital areas were attacked, with Savage attacking the bank, Jack leading the Black Sun against the people, albeit using non-lethal charges, whilst Maul was nowhere to be found. In the chaos, Satine was playing her part and addressing her people. "I need you all to remain calm. These attackers are just thugs brought on by the lowest element," she announced.

Suddenly, the voice of Pre Vizsla could be heard. "The duchess Satine has led us to ruin," he announced, flying in. "Death Watch," Satine hissed. "Guards, stay back," she ordered. "Vizsla, you must be the one responsible for these attacks," she accused as he landed. "No I'm not responsible. But I can offer a solution," he shouted before turning to the people.
