"How ya been, Ayi? You sound awfy tired."

My mom's familiar Scottish accent feels a bit like home. I love how she says the 'R' in my name, but 'Ayi' is just something else.

"I'm fine. I just missed you so I called." I hope she could also hear me smiling.

"I hope this disnae involve your dad." There was a hint of annoyance in her voice so how can I tell her that this exactly involves my dad?

When I told him na it would never be Frankie, he quietly finished his breakfast and walked out. Hindi ko na siya ulit nakita since. He ordered my bodyguards to never let me get close to him.

He's fucking avoiding me for what?

My mom isn't as strict as my dad, she's more of a pretender like I am. She often turns a blind eye to the way he raises me. I can't blame her though, that's probably how she grew up too and she's still suffering from it.

I tried to laugh to ease the tension, "No, I just really missed you. Are you going to visit Manila anytime soon?"

"Ah've got a lot to do. You should come visit after your semester insteid." She sighed.

"I will," I replied as the car pulled up. "Mom, I have to go. I'll call you later." I heard her say 'I love you' just before I ended the call.

Bringing some fruits with me, I made my way to Knox's hospital room. Told my bodyguards na hintayin na lang ako outside, which took a lot of convincing since my dad doesn't really want me out of their sight.

I knocked before going in. I was expecting na marami siyang bisita but he's alone. He's not even on the bed, nakaupo siya sa couch while nakapatong injured leg niya sa maliit na coffee table.

"Bakit ikaw?" He groaned, tossing his head back.

I was about to respond to that little offensive question but he raised his hand, "No offense, Raizen, you're a nice person– but you're friends with my ex-fling who had to go to the emergency because of rough sex and your other friend is a loser who's insecure of my basketball skills."

That's funny, I'll admit that, pero hindi ako tatawa because I'm still quite offended na parang I was the last person on his list na gusto niyang bumisita sa kaniya.

Nilapag ko yung fruits sa side table kasi it would be weird kung itatabi ko 'yon sa paa niya, "I'm paying you a visit as the team captain of Crestwood Creek Howlers."

"Ah, ito ba yung tinatawag nilang sportsmanship?"

I shrugged, stifling a laugh, "I'm the only team captain who came to visit you?"

"No," he groaned once again and I finally laughed. Naupo ako sa hospital bed niya across from him until he's already frowning.

"Given the standings, Sunridge has a strong chance of advancing to the semis. Do you think you'll be able to play by then?" I asked.

Knox scoffed, "Makakalabas din ako ng ospital in a week or two, pero duda akong paglalaruin ako. Nag-advice na sila sa 'kin na next season na ulit maglaro."

Oh.. was it that bad?

I glanced at his leg, and even a non-professional could tell that it would take time to heal, the cast was a bit huge.

"Can I ask what happened?"

"Road accident," He shrugged it off, obviously not wanting to talk about it.
