You can't find me

Chapter 39

Third Person POV 

The combat committee bustle around in their board room late in the evening. 

"We had taken all the safety precautions and even set a perimeter around where they could go. I put my own students out there to take a look at everything before it started but I-"

The heir's older brother slams his fist down onto the table making a few of the members flinch in their seats. 

"Director, I know you have the best interests in heart. But this is unacceptable. You know, a few of those students have parents that are very influential people.." 

He paces up and down the room before continuing. 

"Who we need on our side for the upcoming coronation. The last thing I need is their mouths to be running when my brother goes up on that stage to give his speech." Nikolai says with his voice echoing through the huge room. 

A member raises their hand to speak and he grants them permission. 

"Your highness I can send a search party for them. I'll make sure their the best-"

Nikolai stops him right there. 

"And what will that do? Make the parents suspicious that something has gone wrong. Most of them leave close enough to the academy that they go home each night. Yeah, okay maybe today they slept over at a friends house. But they would've most likely informed their parents." 

Another member gets up from his seat. 

"What if it's someone who's in one of the teams doing?"

Nikolai's eyes narrow as the member mentions that. 

"Go on." he tells the person. 

"I mean what if the opposing team got into a fight and accidentally broke one of the rules given by the teachers and then realized that.. So they covered it up? We could interrogate the people who did come back?"

Jameson, still in his mage clothes from earlier on in the day, looks at the guy and replies.

"That seems a little far fetched, don't you think? Yes, this was counting for one of their exams but.. I don't see how the students would cross their limits to win. Myself and Elena already took back our word for this counting as anything due to what happened. I'll see- " 

Nikolai interrupts him. 

"Okay that's a possibility, the students in our academy are very competitive. First read out to me the names of the children who never made it back. I want to see whose parents we will most likely be hearing back from." 

A lady dressed in a royal blue robe gets up from her chair and finds a piece of paper in her folder. 

"Angelica Myers, Ian Sterling, Brian Yearwood, Coralie Iverson, Hannah Solace, Zaniyah Edith, Aurora Valentino, Luana Crysalsteam and Bastian Crysalsteam." 

Nikolai mutters a few curse words under his breath. 

"Your telling me both of the captains didn't make it back?!!" the minister of education exclaims. 

Everyone gets out of their seat and starts to say they want to have a look at the site themselves. 

"I'm part of the defense team I need to be there-"

"Well as I'm the head of education the parents will come after me-"

"They were my students it's my responsibility-"

"I'm friends with Mr. Iverson, what will I tell him when he asks about his daughter? I can't-"

"Well at least he's busy all the time and probably traveling right now. What about the Crysalsteams? We must look for them first-"

"ENOUGH!" Nikolai yells. 

Everyone comes to a halt. 

"I will go there tonight and have a look myself with a group. Be on call if I hail any one of you. Your lives are mine if any adult outside this room gets to know of this." he grits out while glaring at the scared faces in the room. 

They agree to his terms and the meeting is dismissed. 

Nikolai heads to his carriage when he receives a call. He gets in and answers it. 

"What's up Cas? How's your sister?" he asks with a smile. 

"You shut up about her. I want to know about what happened today with the senior combat students. I know you have intel. So spill." Cassian commands on the line. 

Nikolai kicks the seat in anger before responding. 

"Just asking how she is. Calm down man. As for what happened today... What happened? I haven't heard of anything. Mind telling me-"

"Get your mind out of the gutter. Oh and cut the bullshit Nikolai. I know you know. Your part of that board." he retorts. 

The driver asks Nikolai where he wants to go and he mutes the call before saying, to the school courtyard. 

"Oh I know what boards I'm on, you don't have to remind me. I'm just a little hurt your expecting me to know so much when you know I'm already occupied in so many other things. Well forget that... Why are you so keen on knowing what's going on? If anything even is going on? As far as I know, you already graduated. Stop meddling around." he says in a composed tone. 

He hears Cassian knocking things over on his side of the line. 

"NIKOLAI I SWEAR TO GOD!..If you don't just say what happened I will come there and strangle you myself!" he yells.

"Brother, your long overdue on your counseling appointments. I advise you take them. And like I said, I don't know what your coming at me for.. I haven't heard a thing." Nikolai says and hangs up the second he hears more screaming. 

He then calls a few people who will be helpful to him in finding the missing students that he just denied knowing anything about seconds ago.
