Cora's POV
I make my way down to my first class of the day and Ana waves me over to sit beside her. At least someone wasn't still pissed at me.
"Heyy girl! What the hell happened to you? It's been ages since I saw you, I swear. Are you going to that mage girls funeral? I hear there's going to be a lot of people there. She was pretty well known I guess in her year."
I let out a sigh. The last thing I wanted was to talk about that incident. And I still didn't know if the attackers from that night would follow me to the funeral. I mean we had a deal.. If they kept harming me, everyone else from that night would be safe...
I tug on my sleeves to get over that night.
She snaps her fingers in front of my face and I look up at her.
"Oh uh. When is it?" I ask.
She exhales before responding. "That's what I was talking about! It's today afternoon! We can go together if you want to go? I know you have to make up for a practical later today though so we can leave after some time?"
Logically speaking I know my team-members from that match would put me under the ground if they saw me show up there.. But if I dressed appropriately maybe they wouldn't find out.
"Yeah okay. We can go right after we're done here? I say with an eyebrow raised at her.
She nods in approval.
Today in class we learn about controlling our emotions and it makes me want to cry out loud at the irony of learning this exact topic today.
After the lecture and exercises, I pack everything up and come to a halt when Ana is right beside me.
How was I supposed to look disguised when she would be coming with me?
I call up Ry.
"Hey. What's up?" she says on the other end.
I hear chattering from her side and assume she's still in class.
"Are you down to go to the funeral with me and Ava?" I ask while looking at Ava.
Ava gives a shrug and points to the entrance to motion that she is going to talk to her other friend while I'm on the call.
"I'll see you in a few minutes." I tell her and to also let Ry know she is no longer with me now.
"What the fuck, Cora? Are you insane? Why would you want to go to the funeral after everything? If Ian-"
"I know, Ry. I know. See this is why I didn't want to tell you. You always-"
"I always what, huh? I always what? I'm your friend for god's sake! Of course I'm going to be worried. You don't get to tell me to not confront any of those people and also not worry about you. I'm almost done with class. Wait for me and cover up yourself. I'll find a reason to explain everything to Ava. And watch who your being near. You don't want to get injured again this soon."
And with that she hangs up.
I pull back my sleeves to look at the damage caused on my arms.
It's still pretty bad with the skin barely having healed but I couldn't expose my skin, letting everyone come up with more speculations.
I hear a shriek and whip around to see Myra staring at my arms. I quickly cover them up and try to mutter up a response but she gets me to it.
"What the fuck? Who the hell did that to you?! You should go to the dean and let him know! Oh my gosh that looks horrific. No offense... Wait.. Are you being targeted? Is it connected to that night?? Oh fuck.. LEAH come over here!" she screams to her friend and I stare at her in horror.
Oh my god she couldn't find out.
Leah was literally going to go into the homicide detective division.
"I did it." I stutter to her.
She gasps.
Leah rushes over and gives her a confused look so Myra looks over at me.
I hold my protectively.
"Guys just drop it. It's all taken care of."
"Don't mess with me, Coralie. I know self harm when I see it."
"That's the problem." I mutter under my breath.
"What?"
"Nothing."
I step back and try to walk away but Leah gently grabs my arm.
"You have two choices. Either you show me or I will report it to someone in the infirmary."
My jaw drops. She had no right to interfere.
A hand clamps on my shoulder and I turn to see Ava.
"Are you coming or not? We gotta go the streets are going to be crowded soon. It's busy hours."
Leah looks at Ava and is about to about her annoying mouth but someone else speaks first.
"Why don't you all get lost so I can talk to my friend? Hm? Does that sound like a good idea?" a voice behind me says.
I sigh in relief.
Myra takes one look at Ry and walks away. She didn't want to start a fight with Ry for no valid reason.
Leah on the other hand has the same attitude as Ry and scoffs.
It was a surprise that they both got along.
I step back to face both of them and Ava comes to my side.
Leah puts her manicured hands on Ry's neck and whispers something into her ear as Ry leans in to hear her better.
If anyone else had even come that close to Ry she would have snapped their neck.
"Bye bitch." she says with a wave and then goes back into the building.
"What about-" I start to say.
"The carriage is here. We'll talk in there." she interrupts.
How could we talk when Ava wasn't part of anything?
We start walking towards it and then stop when Ry stops mid distance.
"Oh yeah. Ava, did you know that Justin was asking me about you today?"
I internally smile to myself.
Ava's face drops in surprise.
"Really?? Oh my gosh!! What did he say?" she squeals in excitement.
"Oh you know he was just wondering if you two wanted to study together today at 4 at the study place in his residence hall. Since your both in so many similar classes and all.."
"YES! I'LL GO! Where is he?"
"At the entrance of the science building."
Her face then falls.
"Oh but we were supposed to go to the funeral together.."
Ry waves off the topic.
"Her ghost isn't gonna come haunt you Ava. You both didn't even talk. I'll pay your respects on my behalf."
"True. True." she takes a pause as if thinking and then continues. "AHH THANK YOU!" she hugs Ry and waves goodbye to the both of us before sprinting to the science building.
I seriously loved Ry so much.
