Taylor and Travis made their way out of the school. The earlier tension between them had melted into something more comfortable, but there was an unspoken weight in the air, the residue of Kayla's venomous words. Taylor tried to push the thoughts away, but they clung to her mind like stubborn cobwebs, making her stomach churn with unease.

Outside, the warm afternoon sun greeted them. Travis walked beside her, his hand brushing lightly against hers, but Taylor didn't reach out like she normally would. She was lost in thought, her mind replaying Kayla's words over and over again. Was there any truth to them? Could Travis really be using her? She wanted to believe that their connection was real, but the seed of doubt had been planted.

"Hey," Travis's voice broke through her reverie. He smiled down at her, but there was a flicker of concern in his eyes. "You okay?"

Taylor forced a smile, nodding quickly. "Yeah, just a little tired, I guess."

He studied her for a moment, not entirely convinced but not wanting to push her either. "If you're sure," he said softly, then gestured toward the parking lot. "Let's get out of here."

They walked to his car in silence, the quiet only amplifying Taylor's swirling thoughts. She slid into the passenger seat, her body feeling heavier than usual. Travis started the engine, and they drove off, the radio playing softly in the background. Normally, they'd chat about their day or make plans for the evening, but today, the silence between them was thick with unspoken words.

Taylor glanced out the window, watching the familiar streets pass by. Her heart was heavy with a mix of confusion and fear.

Travis, sensing her unease, finally broke the silence. "You're really quiet today. What's on your mind?"

She hesitated, her fingers playing with the hem of her shirt. "It's nothing," she mumbled, but she could feel his gaze on her, gentle yet probing.

"Taylor," he said softly, his voice laced with concern. "Talk to me please."

She took a deep breath, trying to steady the whirlwind of emotions inside her. "It's just... the thing Kayla said earlier. It's been bothering me."

Travis's grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, his jaw clenching. "She's just trying to get into your head, ignore her." He said, his eyes focused on the road ahead.

She wanted to believe him, she really did, but the doubt still lingered. "Why did you break up with her? Why didn't it work out?"

Travis's expression darkened slightly, and he hesitated before answering. "She cheated on me," he said quietly, his voice tinged with hurt. "We were together for a while, but things started to fall apart. She got distant, and then I found out she was seeing someone else behind my back. That's why we broke up."

Taylor's heart sank. She hadn't expected that. "I'm sorry," she said softly, reaching out to touch his arm. "That must have been really hard."

He nodded, his expression softening at her touch. "It was. But that's over now. What I have with you... it's different. You're different, Taylor. And I don't want to lose you because of something she said."

Her heart fluttered at his words, but the doubt still gnawed at her. "I want to believe that," she admitted, her voice trembling slightly. "But it's hard, especially when she says things like that. It makes me question everything."

Travis pulled into a secluded spot, turning off the engine. He turned to face her, his eyes searching hers. "Look at me, Taylor," he said softly, taking her hands in his. "I care about you. A lot. I wouldn't be here with you if I didn't. What we have is real, and I'm not going to let anyone take that away from us."
