As the weekend approached, the excitement of the upcoming party buzzed through the hallways of the school. Taylor, still navigating her return to normalcy, found herself both excited and anxious about the event. It would be her first real social outing since her hospitalization, and while part of her longed for the carefree joy of a typical teenage experience, another part feared the unknown.

Travis knew the first hurdle was convincing his father to let him attend the party. That evening, after dinner, he approached his father in the living room. Ed was sitting in his favorite armchair, reading the newspaper.

"Dad," Travis began, trying to keep his tone casual, "there's a party this weekend. It's for the seniors. I'd like to go."

His father didn't look up immediately, his eyes scanning the page in front of him. "A party, huh? What's the occasion?"

"Just a senior get together," Travis explained, trying to downplay it. "Everyone's going. I've been doing well in school, my grades are solid. I promise I won't drink or do anything stupid."

Ed finally looked up, his gaze scrutinizing Travis for a moment. The room felt heavy with tension. "Your grades have been good, that's true," he admitted. "But you know how I feel about these things. What's the plan?"

"I'll be with Taylor the whole time," Travis said quickly. "You know, the friend I had to stay with in the hospital."

Ed's expression shifted slightly, his eyes narrowing as he processed the information. He hadn't known much about Taylor, just that she was someone important enough for Travis to stay with overnight at the hospital. "Taylor... right," Ed murmured, leaning back in his chair. "Alright, you can go," he finally said, his tone more measured. "But remember, no drinking. And be home by midnight. I mean it, Travis."

Travis nodded, relief flooding through him. "Thanks, Dad. I promise I'll stick to the rules."

Ed waved him off, his attention already drifting back to the papers on his desk. "Just make sure you do."

With that, Travis hurried out of the room, already planning the evening ahead.

Meanwhile, Taylor stood in front of her closet, her phone on speaker as she discussed outfits with Abigail and Selena. Travis was supposed to pick her up in an hour, and she still had no idea what to wear.

"I'm thinking something comfortable but cute," Taylor said, pulling out a pair of black jeans and a flowy top. "I don't want to overdo it."

"Go with something that makes you feel good," Abigail suggested. "This is about having fun, not stressing over your outfit."

Selena chimed in, "Maybe add a bit of color? Something that pops."

After much deliberation, Taylor settled on the black jeans, pairing them with a soft pink top that brought out the warmth in her complexion. She opted for minimal makeup, just enough to enhance her features without feeling too made up. As she pulled on her shoes, she heard a knock at the door.

Andrea opened the door and smiled as Travis stepped inside, looking sharp in a casual button down shirt and dark jeans. "You look nice, Travis," Andrea said warmly. "Are you ready to take care of my daughter tonight?"

Taylor rolled her eyes, grabbing her jacket. "Mom, I'm not a child. I'll be fine."

Travis grinned at Andrea, his tone playful but sincere. "I promise, I'll make sure she's safe."

Andrea nodded, a hint of concern lingering in her eyes. "Alright. Have fun, but be careful."

As they walked out to the car, Taylor glanced back and saw her mother watching them from the doorway. She felt a pang of guilt for worrying her but pushed it aside. Tonight was about letting go, even if just for a little while.
