Tatum POV:
Last night was perfect, and so is this morning. The soft glow of the morning sun was just barely beginning to shine through the gaps in Emily's drapes. She was still snuggled up into my chest from the night before and my arms were still wrapped securely around her. Neither of us had stirred yet. We both kept sleeping quietly.
There was just one thing that wasn't perfect.
There was a quiet repetitive buzz. It would buzz a good 10 times and then stop. There would be a short pause and just when I thought that the buzzing would go away for good, it would start up again. There was also an occasional single buzz with nothing following after it.
"What's that noise?" Emily mumbled quietly. She rubbed one of her eyes but didn't open it. She then placed her hand back around my waist.
"I don't know." I grumbled, just barely beginning to stir. I removed one of my arms from around Emily to rub my sleepy eyes before opening them. I took a quick glance around the dim room to look for the sound. When my eyes found the night stand, I saw my phone screen lit up.
Buzz
Buzz
Buzz
"Shit." I mumbled.
I quickly reached over and grabbed my phone from off of the night stand. I looked at the time to see that it was 9am. Not too early but not too later either. If it was up to me I'd stay in bed forever but with the urgency that my phone has been ringing at, I know I can't.
"What is it?" Emily asked with her eyes still closed.
"My mom has been calling me all night." I said with a gulp.
15 missed calls and 42 missed texts to be exact.
I quickly scrolled through the texts to see what they said.
'Hey Tate, just wondering what time you'll be home.' - Mom at 11:15pm
'Tatum, I told you not to stay out too late.' - Mom at 12am
'I'm starting to get worried. Where are you?' - Mom at 12:15am
I kept scrolling and they texts kept getting more and more urgent, and more and more frequent. There were several voicemails left as well. I decided to scroll randomly and click on one.
"Tatum Angelie Reese! I swear on my life if you aren't dead yet and you have me all worried for nothing, you will be dead when you get home for not answering my calls!" My mom's voice angrily yelled in the recording.
"Shit. She doesn't sound happy." Emily said nervously, finally opening her eyes and sitting up in bed. I sat up as well and leaned against the headboard.
"No she doesn't. Shit. I should've at least texted her to tell her I was staying out so then she didn't freak out." I said.
"Welp it's a little late now." Emily pointed out.
"Yeah no shit." I grumbled before covering my face with my hands. "I should probably call her back." I said with a sigh before clicking on my mom's contact. The phone didn't even ring once before she was picking it up.
"Hey Ma-"
"Don't you 'ma' me!" She yelled into the phone. "You better be on your death bed because if you left me worried sick all night for nothing!" She shrieked. Before I could even say anything, Emily leaned forward and spoke into the phone.
"Hey Mrs. Reese, it's Emily."
There was no response from the other end of the line for a second, almost as if my mom was calming down.
