Tatum POV:

It's cold and dark out this Friday night. All the stadium lights are on to illuminate the field for the final day of tryouts. Flurries of snow were falling and passing through the beams of lights in the stadium, falling and melting as they hit the turf.

Emily has been doing amazing at every tryout session. She's been outrunning and outplaying both Olivia and Christina. I know I may be biased but I genuinely think that she's the best fit for our team and the most deserving for the scholarship.

"Alright ladies! This is your final tryout session. You've all performed extremely well but this is your final chance to prove to me why you deserve a spot on the team and why you deserve a full ride scholarship. I suggest you leave it all on the field." Coach Lawson stated as she looked at the three girls trying out.

I glanced over to see Emily. She looked at peace, like she was satisfied with her performance and like she was proud of herself. I know that I sure am.

"Chelsea and Anna break them up into two scrimmage teams." Coach Lawson said. Every single girl broke out into a smile and there were even a couple cheers echoed through the team. Everyone loves scrimmaging and this is for sure the most fun and easiest tryout session we've had all week.

"Okay girls. If I call your name come with me." Chelsea stated.

"And if I call your name your on my team." Anna, Chelsea's co captain stated.

"For attack players, Christina, Marley, Cassidy, and Kaylee." Chelsea stated. The four girls stepped out of the crowd as their names were called and walked over to join Chelsea.

"And I'm taking Olivia, Maddison, Leah, and myself." Anna said with a smile. Chelsea just rolled her eyes and laughed.

"Okay then. For middies I want me, Tatum, and Emily." Chelsea stated before looking over at Anna with a cocky smirk.

"Oh you little shit. You're always taking all the good players!" Anna yelled. "Not that you aren't all good players." She said and the team laughed.

I walked over with Emily and we joined Chelsea's team. I'm very happy that Chelsea selected Em and me to be on the same team. We've always worked super well together both on and off the field. This is perfect for me to help Em show Coach Lawson how deserving Emily is of that scholarship.

"You ready for this?" I said to Emily with a smile.

"I was born ready." She replied with a smile. Once Chelsea had finished picking out her defense, she walked over to me and Emily. She placed an arm over both of our shoulders and pulled us in close.

"I'm counting on the fact that you two have just as good chemistry on the field as you do off of it?" Chelsea asked hopefully.

"Oh you know it." Emily said with a smirk.

"Perfect. I'm counting on it. This is a perfect opportunity for you to shine Em. Plus I want nothing more than to kick Anna's ass." Chelsea said mischievously.

"Of course you do." I replied with a laugh. Chelsea and Anna have always had this friendly rivalry on the field. Anytime they are paired against each other they are always fooling around laughing and trying their best to beat the other. If you ask me, there is some serious tension between them. I wouldn't be surprised if they get together some day.

Or if they already have.

With both teams fully assembled, we all lined up in our positions on the field. Coach Lawson walked out into the center of the field and set Chelsea and the opposing midfielder up for the draw. Emily and I stood on opposite sides of the circle, lined up with an opposing player and ready to go.
