Nat's POV

How am I supposed to be with her? If she doesn't wake up then I guess it doesn't matter. If we are mates though and made for each other like she says we are then nothing else matters. She would love me for me. Ha, love. Like anyone would actually love me. I was still lost in my head, thinking of all the what ifs, what I wish I could have but have been told all my life I would never have, when I felt movement and heard a slight groan come from Alex. She moved her head back and forth trying to wake herself up, while I kept running my fingers through her hair.

"Natasha?" Alex asked through a painful groan.

Nat: "Shhh. You're okay, I'm right here."

Alex: "I don't feel good."

Nat: "You're okay, take some deep breaths. I'm not going anywhere."

Alex: "Why?"

Nat: "Why what?"

Alex: "Why did you reject me? Why did you leave?"

Nat: "I'll explain everything later, but I came back and I'm not leaving again. Not until we figure this out."

Alex: "I can't hear or feel Artemis."

Nat: "I'm sure she's still there."

Alex: "If she dies, I won't last much longer."

Nat: "What are you talking about."

Alex: "If my wolf dies, I die."

Nat: "Why would Artemis die?"

Alex: "You rejected us. Wolves can't live with the rejection from our mates."

Nat: "Well that's a bit dramatic." Alex growled at me. "Okay, that came out wrong. When did I reject you?"

Alex: "You said you couldn't be with me then left."

Nat: "I left to think everything through. There are things about me that make me unlovable. You could never love me. I just needed time to think."

Alex: "Nothing you say could change the way I feel about you." Alex moved off my lap, took my hands and looked me in the eye. "You are my mate, no matter what, I would love you. All I'm asking for is a chance. Just give us a chance to love you. We can take this at your pace, no rush."

Nat: "What if I can't do that? What if I can't love you?"

Alex: "Then you need to let us go now."

Nat: "I can't just let you go."

Alex: "Then you will be torturing us just like they did. Only difference, you would also be giving us a death sentence. Just give us a chance, that's all I ask."

Nat: "Okay."

Alex: "Okay?" Natasha nodded her head. "Okay, we will take this at your pace." Alex said with a smile.

I stood up and grabbed her hand to pull her up. She was a bit unsteady, so I threw her arm around my shoulder and wrapped my arm around her waist for support. I chuckled as my action caused her to let out a long groan. I led her back into the house.

Nat: "Is this really all because of me."

Alex: "What do you mean?"

Nat: "You can barely walk. Did my leaving cause this?"

Alex: "It's what happens when a mate rejects the other. We start off by feeling physically weak. The longer the rejection goes the worse the effects are. Our wolf sides feel the effects worse than our human side does. If our mates don't accept us in time, then they die. If our wolf dies... then so does the human side."

Nat: "So I did this? You said you can't feel Artemis, Is she still alive?"

Alex: "She's still alive, just very weak right now."

Nat: "Were you ever this weak with Hydra?" Alex stayed silent. We had finally reached the porch to the house. I led her over to the porch swing and made her sit down. "Staying silent is no better than answering the question you know." Alex took a deep breath.

Alex: "Sorry, I don't like to think about them. The only time Artemis was weak then, was when they would inject us with silver then whip us with silver chains." Alex started to space out, clearly lost in a memory.

Nat: "How old were you?"

Alex: "The first time, I was 6." Our eyes met. I couldn't help but look at her with pity. It also made me remember some of my past. "Can we not talk about this now please?"

Nat: "We don't have to talk about it now. I'm not ready to talk about my past either, but one day we will need to tell each other everything if we want this to work."

Alex: "I promise to tell you, I just can't tell you now. Once Artemis is back, we will tell you."

Nat: "We do need to get to know each other though."

Alex: "What do you want to know?"

Nat: "Whatever you want me to know."

Alex POV

"I was born on 10/31/1989 to the Alpha's of the Blood Moon pack. I had a normal first five years of my childhood. You know, I ran around having fun with friends. Just being a carefree kid." I let out a small chuckle. "My mom always said I was just like my dad, always getting into trouble. My dad took pride in it. Anytime he heard her say that he always said, "It's the sign of a great Alpha." I didn't care about that much back then. I was just being me. My friends always followed my lead, which did get us into some trouble as I loved to explore our territory. There was one kid that liked to challenge me. Didn't matter what the challenge was, I always won. Thinking about it now, If I was Alpha of the pack, he would be the first one to challenge me. Hell, he would probably do it the morning of the ceremony. Everything changed the day of the attack. I lost my whole pack, saw my parents killed in front of me. I tried to fight back, enough that I triggered my wolf to appear. It was no use though; I was just a kid taking on armed adults. That night they kidnapped me. I spent the next 20 years as their punching bag."

Nat: "Artemis is huge though, why couldn't she take out Hydra?"

Alex: "We are abnormally large in our wolf form. We are larger than your regular wolf, but we shouldn't be as big as we are. We are only that large because of what they did to us. At the time of the attack, Artemis was no bigger than an eight-week-old pup. We would have still been larger than other wolves, because of our Alpha bloodline though. We normally don't even get our wolves until our 16th birthday. With us being that young and untrained, we didn't stand a chance."

Nat: "I'm sorry, at least you two had each other."

Alex: "What about you?"

Nat POV

"I don't want to talk about it in detail, but I was born on 11/22/1984 not exactly sure where, but as a kid the only home I really knew was Russia. My mom gave me away, left me on the streets like I was trash. I was raised in an organization called the Red Room, where I was raised to become an assassin. I escaped the Red Room in 2007 thanks to Clint. Became an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D and eventually an Avenger. There's not a whole lot to tell."

Alex: "I'm sure there's more without talking about your past. Just tell me what you want me to know."

"I like peanut butter sandwiches." Natasha said in the most deadpanned, completely serious voice. Alex couldn't help but let out a belly laugh. "What's funny about that?"

Alex: "Nothing." Alex was still trying to calm down from laughing. "It was just how you said it."

Nat: "Ok, so I may have said it kinda funny. What's something you like?"

Alex stopped laughing at the question, trying to think of something. "I...I don't know. I only remember trying to survive. Most days they didn't even feed me, so when they did, I was too hungry to not eat it."

Nat: "Alright, come on."

Alex: "What are we doing."

Nat: Figuring out what you like and don't like."
