VIRAJ
I haven't handled a crying baby before well, I haven't handled a baby before. I just stare at those wide doe eyes crying wiggling as I stood there in front of the crib towering over the baby, my shadow looming over the baby.
" Do something, she is crying! "Vihaan let out glaring at me.
" What am I supposed to do? " I asked him, turning my attention towards a little man. He slapped his hands on his forehead.
" Take her out of the crib " I heard him as I followed whatever he said. I gently forwarded my hands holding naz securely as I take her in my arms and she wiggled more.
" Rub her back " I heard Vihaan instructing as I followed it without a word. My rough hands slide on the soft fabric of her clothes.
As awkwardly patted Naz's back, she let out another wail, her tiny face scrunching up like a tomato. I glanced at Vihaan, who was now dramatically pinching the bridge of his nose like he was dealing with the most hopeless case on Earth.
Maybe he was.
"Maybe she doesn't like me," I muttered, half-joking and half-serious. Naz's cries only grew louder as if to confirm my suspicion.
Vihaan rolled his eyes. "Babies don't have taste preferences for people! She's just uncomfortable or something. Try bouncing her"
"Bouncing? Like... basketball?" I asked, confused, as I started a very stiff, up-and-down movement that probably looked more like I was doing squats.
Vihaan's face paled. "No, no! Gently! You're not lifting weights!"
"Oh" said, stopping the mini workout. I tried again, this time more like cradling a water balloon I really didn't want to burst. Naz's cries softened slightly, but she still seemed unimpressed.
"Now, talk to her," Vihaan suggested.
She is literally just one and half hear. What I'm supposed to talk about with her?
"Talk? About what?" I stammered. My mind went blank. What do babies even like to hear?
"'Anything! Just say something soothing."
"Umm... Okay" I cleared my throat and in the most awkward tone possible, began to talk.
"Hey Naz. It's okay. Um... The stock market's been pretty volatile lately, but don't worry, Long-term investments usually pay off."
Vihaan's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "Are you seriously giving her a financial lecture?"
" I panicked!" I defended, but
surprisingly, Naz quieted down a little, her tiny head resting against my shoulder as she hiccuped softly.I looked down at Naz, who had finally settled a bit, her small fingers clutching the fabric of my shirt.
"See? We're bonding" I said proudly, though I had idea what I was doing.
