Christmas Morning

They return to the house where Lian is waiting for them and petting Brucely.

"Mommy says breakfast is almost ready," Lian says as Brucely walks over to Dick.

"Okay," Will says going over to pick her up.

"Breakfast is ready!" Jade's voice comes from the kitchen.

Will puts Lian down and they run to the kitchen.

Artemis starts to follow them but stops when she notices Dick not move.

"What's wrong?"

"I need to make a call," Dick says taking his phone out.

"Nope, it's Christmas," Artemis takes the phone, "and now that you are fully healed I'm not afraid to take you on," Artemis finishes the statement with a threat.

"Fine, let's go eat," Dick says.

"Good," Artemis says giving his phone back.

They walk into the kitchen where two seats right by Lian are empty. Dick pulls the chair next to Lian out.

"Thank you Dick," Artemis says sitting in the chair.

Dick smiles as he takes the one next to her.

"It's so nice to finally have a Christmas all together," Jade says.

"It's all thanks to Dick, he was the one who contacted the people who helped me," Artemis gives the credit where it is deserved.

"I just did what I could," Dick says modestly.

"You know, I haven't seen you glow like that since Wally passed," Paula says as Artemis looks at Dick.

"Well, looks like your mom just forced us to say it," Dick says.

"Say what?" Jade asks.

"Dick and I have been dating," Artemis says.

"When did this start?" Will asks.

"About three months ago, after he took that arrow for me," Artemis says.

"So you started dating someone who saved your life? Are you sure this isn't Stockholm Syndrome?" Jade asks.

"Dick didn't kidnap her or hold her hostage, he took her from a bad situation," Paula says.

"Jade, I know that you are protective of me but I was the one who decided that we should get together," Artemis says to her sister.

"Besides they have known each other as long as she knew Wally," Will says.

Paula and Jade have a confused look.

"I was the original Robin, Bruce adopted me after my family was murdered," Dick says showing his vulnerability.

"I'm so sorry, for your loss and to hear about the memorial," Paula says.

Artemis puts her hand on Dick's when she sees him look down.

"Anyway, how has recovery been going?" Will changes the subject before Lian can ask what Paula meant.

"Good, I'm taking some time to focus on me, going to my meetings, and my new assistant is a member of the Outsiders so I don't have to worry about anything getting out, plus Garfield is my sponsor so I can call him if I feel weak," Artemis says.

"That's really good, I'm glad you're getting the help," Jade says knowing how hard it is to accept help.

"What do you mean sponsor, you're not an alcoholic are you?" Paula asks.

"No Paula, a sponsor isn't just for alcoholics or people who want to quit something, when Conor, Megan, and Garfield went to Mars and Connor jumped into the lava and saved Mars, Garfield felt guilty for not being able to save him and slipped into a depression," Dick says.

"And that's what I felt when Wally died helping stop the Reach from taking over Earth, so whenever I feel helpless and don't think anyone would understand I can call Garfield and talk to him," Artemis finishes the explanation.

"That's good," Paula smiles.

Topics change as they finish eating.

"Can we open presents now?" Lian asks after everyone is done eating.

"Yes Sweetie, we can open presents now," Jade smiles.
