Dick doesn't say or do anything through the weekend, not even a kiss or "goodnight".
"Dick, do you love me?" Artemis leans against the open office door as she asks a question that she knows he will answer.
"Of course I do," Dick says getting up from his desk.
Artemis looks down, not able to look him in the eye.
"Why would you even ask that?" Dick puts his arms around her.
"You have just been a little distant recently, since that email," Artemis dips and walks away.
"Huh?" Dick says confused.
"I know that you are protective of your family, especially Damian since he is the only blood Bruce has but you haven't said or done anything to show you love me, not even a kiss goodnight, I know that I didn't show much when Wally was alive but after Grant I feel the need to be shown, to be reminded and feel that I am loved," Artemis looks at him with tears in her eyes.
Dick looks down for a second.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think about that," Dick says taking her face in his hands and wiping her tears away.
"It's okay, I should know by now that you're used to me being independent," Artemis sniffles.
"And I should remember that you are much more fragile than the other girls I've dated," Dick says.
"I've been taught to put on a brave face, but for some reason I can't with you, I haven't been able to be myself with any other guy except Wally."
"I'm glad you trust me enough," Dick hugs her.
"I don't get it," Artemis says.
"Get what?"
"Get why I can't put a brave face on when it's just the two of us, why I can show my real feelings without someone else bringing them up first," Artemis says.
"Because you're comfortable around me, you know I won't push you to do anything you're not comfortable with, you know that I am a true gentleman," Dick says kissing her forehead.
"And that's why I love you," Artemis says.
"Why?" Dick fakes oblivion.
"Well aside from your fake oblivion, you know exactly how to make things clear, I love you," Artemis says.
"I love you. Truthfully I think I've always loved you, I just knew that Wally needed you more than I did," Dick says.
Artemis initiates a kiss.
"Thank you," Artemis says after they finish the kiss.
