Impossible Love (A Young Justice Fanfic)

Therapy Session

"Are you sure you're okay?" Dick mutes the TV.

"Im fine, I just want to get back to work," Artemis says.

"Which work?"

"Dick, you know exactly which work I'm talking about."

There is a knock on the door.

"I wonder who that is this early," Artemis says as Dick answers the door.

"Hey Jeff," Dick says as their boss comes into the apartment.

"Hey Dick, Artemis, we need to talk," Jeff says to both of them.

Artemis turns off the TV and the two boys sit down.

"What's going on?" Artemis asks.

"Bruce told me what happened, and until Dinah clears you, you are taking a leave of absence," Jeff says.

"What! But what if the mission requires an archer, or swords?" Artemis stands up.

"I have already talked to Will and Cassandra, they are willing to step in when needed," Jeff says.

"But."

"No buts, until Dinah clears you, you're benched, and that's final."

"Do I have to go to Star City?"

"No, Bruce told me about the restraining order, she will come to you."

"Fine," Artemis says.

"Good, I have to get back to the Watchtower, keep me updated," Jeff says leaving.

"Great," Artemis throws her head back.

"He is only looking out for your mental health, nobody wants you to end up like Garfield."

"I'm not going to take pills," Artemis growls looking at Dick.

"I'm not saying that, I'm saying that when trauma occurs we need help. Asking for help isn't a weakness, it's a strength."

The phone rings.

"Yes?" Dick picks up.

"Mr. Grayson, a woman named Dinah Lance is here to see Ms. Crock," the male voice says.

"Yes, let her come up," Dick says before hanging up the phone.

"Who is coming up?"

"Dinah, looks like she knows you want to get back in the field too," Dick says.

There is a knock on the door.

"Hi Dinah, thanks for coming," Dick says opening the door.

"Of course," Dinah comes in.

"Dinah, I don't need this, I need to be out there," Artemis stands up and throws her arm towards the window.

"What you just said is exactly why you need it," Dinah walks up to Artemis.

"Just start with one session," Dick suggests putting his hand on Artemis' shoulder.

"Fine, I'll do one session," Artemis sits down.

"I have to go tell Bruce about the mission at Wayne Tech," Dick says.

"He isn't going to like it," Artemis says.

"Maybe not, but that is part of behind the scenes," Dick says before leaving.

"So, should we start?" Dinah asks.

"Yeah, let's get this over with," Artemis says sitting down.

"We should start at the beginning, why did you go to Grant?"

"I had just broke up with Jason, he was worried that if I kept going on missions that I would end up walking with a cane too," Artemis says.

"So he became too worried," Dinah says.

"Then I met Grant at a book store while looking for the next book my class would read the next semester, we had coffee and hit it off, he was very charming at first, but when one of our missions turned from hours to days he started showing his true colors."

"Why not get out then?"

"I don't know, Megan says I just wanted love so I took what I could get," Artemis looks down.

"And even though you have had a good relationship you decided to revert back to the love you got as a kid."

Artemis nods.

"But what you got as a kid wasn't love, it was abuse," Dinah says.

Artemis repeats the gesture.

"But you finally got out."

"Thanks to my friends, especially Dick, if it weren't for him I wouldn't have gotten the restraining order," Artemis says.

"That's a good step, and I heard you are staying in Bludhaven," Dinah says.

"Yes, Dick is letting me stay here, best place to be knowing I have someone who I can always count on and trusts me enough to share their past to stop me from doing something stupid and turn into my father."

"It's nice to know you have a support system, a very big and good support system, especially when one of those people share the same importance of someone else."

"You mean Wally and Dick?"

"Mhm, sometimes what or who we need is right in front of us," Dinah says.

"I'm glad we had this session," Artemis says.

"Me too, you made a breakthrough, but that is only one, there will be many more."

"I can't wait," Artemis says.

"I run a group session on Thursdays, I think you would benefit from it, many of those who come you already know so it will be more comfortable," Dinah says walking to the door.

"Okay, am I cleared to be in the field?"

"I haven't determined that yet, I will talk with Jeff and he will decide," Dinah leaves.
