Two years have passed since that day. During this time, Daenys and Aegon managed to stay in close contact and met up more often. She also regularly exchanged letters with Helaena and learnt that Helaena had to marry her younger brother Aemond, because that was what the queen wanted. A few months ago, Helaena gave birth to her first child, Aenys Targaryen.

Seasmoke had tried nothing that one day. He watched the young girl and from that day on, he allowed her to stroke his muzzle. Daenys herself decided not to claim him as her dragon, because he was her father's dragon. She had Meraxes, Silverwing and Vermithor.

Last year, Daenys set off for Dorne with Meraxes and Shadow, as her mother had decided to make Dorne her ally and her own efforts were fruitless. Daenys landed Meraxes just outside so as not to frighten the people of Sunspear. Together with Shadow, she headed for Sunspear and was welcomed there by the Prince of Dorne. She stayed in Dorne for a while and tried to gain the trust of the people. Nothing happened for a long time, until one evening when she went for a walk with the Prince of Dorne and two masked men appeared out of nowhere and threatened the two of them. Before the men could even think about harming the two, Daenys stood protectively in front of the older man and Shadow jumped out of the shadows and finished the men off. This courage and selflessness earned Daenys Dorne's support. Dorne swore loyalty, but not to her mother, but to her. Daenys kept this to herself for now.

'What are you thinking about, my love?' 'All that has happened over the last two years.' Daenys snuggled closer to Aegon, who was leaning against his dragon Sunfyre. Vermithor, who accompanied Daenys, lay in front of the three of them. 'Do you regret it? Well, I mean us?' 'Never, Aegon. I love you as much as you love me. We'll get through anything that's thrown our way.' Daenys turned to Aegon to look him straight in the eye. 'We'll get through anything. I love you, Dany.' Dany leant towards Aegon, and they both melted into the kiss. But even this being together had to end at some point, because Dany had to go back to Dragonstone. 'We'll see each other again soon. I love you.' 'Until next time, my love.' With one last heartfelt kiss, the two said goodbye and Dany flew to Dragonstone.

When Daenys returned to the castle, she found her parents bent over the Painted Table. 'Is everything all right?' 'Daenys, my girl, everything is fine.' 'Rhaenyra, you don't have to sugarcoat anything. We're thinking about what we should do if Viserys dies. Rhaenyra, we need bigger dragons.' 'Daenys has Meraxes, Silverwing and Vermithor. Meraxes is many times bigger than Vhagar. What more do you want?' 'We need a war dragon as monstrous and relentless as Balerion was.' Daenys didn't want to listen to this conversation any longer and went back to her dragons.

Daenys leant against Meraxe's huge form. 'My parents have lost their minds. My father wants Balerion back. Of course, it would be incredible to have a dragon like that back here, but I couldn't bring myself to let Balerion go back to someone who only sees him as a war machine. I don't want you three to have to do anything you don't want to do. To be honest, I'm a little afraid of what's coming. Afraid of what my father will do.' Meraxes, Silverwing and Vermithor noticed how agitated their rider was and tried to calm her down. It didn't take long for Shadow to join them and snuggle up to Daenys.

In the evening, Daenys returned to the castle and got something small to eat from the kitchen. She then walked to her room and got ready for bed. She had barely got into bed before she fell asleep. The next morning, Daenys found a letter lying on her desk, which she must have overlooked last night. With the letter in her hand, she walked to her dragons. Once there, she was greeted by Shadow and Meraxes. Vermithor and Silverwing must have been away together again.

Dany opened the letter and began to read it. Nora had written to her. As she read the letter, she started to cry. It couldn't be. Not Arra! In the letter, Nora told her that Arra had died shortly after the birth of her and Cregan's son Rickon. Daenys couldn't really finish reading the letter because of her tears. She needed to talk to her mum. Dany wanted to be there for Cregan.

Her mum was quickly found and Daenys was able to ask her if she could go to Winterfell. Rhaenyra couldn't deny her daughter this wish and so Daenys set off for Winterfell with all three dragons and Shadow.
