Two days had passed since Daenys had received the warning from Aegon and now she was standing in the Chamber of the Painted Table with her mother, Jace, Rhaenys and a few other people to discuss what to do next. The Lord of Rook's Rest had asked for help. Daenys listened to what was being said back and forth, her only thought at the moment being that this could have been prevented if only her mother had listened to her. Does she not trust her or why doesn't she take her words seriously?

'Mother, I'm going to fly to Rook's Rest.' Jace looked round after saying those words with complete seriousness. 'No, I can't lose another one of my children. You're not going to Rook's Rest.' Daenys looked at her mother and then at her brother. She understood her mother's concern, for that morning she had sent her two youngest children on their way to Pentos to keep them safe. 'I will go. Meleys is the biggest dragon after Daenys'dragons.' 'All right. Thank you, Rhaenys.' With these words, Rhaenyra ended the meeting and left the room. When the room was empty and only Rhaenys and Daenys were left standing there, Daenys turned to her grandmother. 'Grandmother, please don't fly to Rook's Rest. It's a trap. You won't survive this. Why are you doing this?' 'My dear Daenys. I know this is a trap, but I've already lived my life, or most of it. It is now my job to protect you. I love you very much.' With tears in her eyes, Rhaenys left the room to change her clothes.

Daenys didn't know what else to do, her grandmother was flying towards her certain death and her mother didn't really seem to care. She also left the room now and walked along the corridor. She looked out of one of the windows and could see her three dragons in the distance.

Before she could reach the Dragonmont, she was stopped by her mother. 'Daenys, I need to talk to you.' 'What is it mother?' 'My father told me something when he made me heir to the throne, and now it's my job to pass it on to you.'  Daenys looked at her mother with a stunned expression, was she serious? 'I know the story of Aegon and his dream. You don't need to tell it to me again.' 'How do you know this story?' Rhaenyra's anger was evident. 'I was given a scroll as a gift and Aegon's dream was written in it. Don't you think there are more important things than this dream? We are at war! You just sent Rhaenys to her certain death without batting an eyelid. You ignored my warning for the second time. None of this would have to happen if you had listened to me.' 'There are casualties in war. You don't understand that. You're still too young. Let the adults sort it out.' With these words, Rhaenyra turned and walked away.

Daenys stood rooted to the spot and looked after her mother in disbelief. Was she serious? Of course there is loss in war, but if you can prevent it, why don't you? Is she afraid of Rhaenys? Why does her mother just ignore her? Daenys already knew that Rhaenys was on her way to Rook's Rest, and she had to act. She couldn't protect and save her father (Laenor), Laena and Luke, but she could save her grandmother.

She ran as fast as she could to the armour room to put on some armour. An armour that seemed to have been made for a female dragon rider caught her eye and she put it on. She then ran to her dragons. Daenys inwardly hoped that no one saw her.

In King's Landing

Cole and Aemond's plan was put into action and they had already arrived at Rook's Rest. Aegon looked out of the window and had a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach. He decided at that moment to intervene in the action. So, he put on his armour and ran to the Dragonpit, where his dragon Sunfyre was already waiting for him. After a warm and affectionate greeting between dragon and rider, Aegon climbed onto the back of his dragon. Sunfyre flew towards Rook's Rest with Aegon on his back. Hopefully he wouldn't be too late.

At Dragonstone

Daenys stood resolutely in front of her dragons and Shadow. 'Actually, I don't want to expose either of you to this war and lose one of you. We have to save my grandmother before she is killed by Aemond and Vhagar. I can't lose someone else who is so close to me.' Her tears were already rolling down her cheeks and all three dragons were already standing in front of her in a threatening manner. They were ready to go to war. 'I will only fly to Rook's Rest with one of you. The other two will fly to Dorne together with Shadow. I've already sent a letter to Sunspear with that information.'

Two of her dragons with Shadow on their backs took off and flew towards Sunspear, where they were already expected. Daenys stood in front of her third dragon, ready to fly to Rook's Rest. She climbed onto the dragon's back and held on tight. Unlike other Targaryens, Daenys didn't think much of saddles, so none of the three had one. With a powerful push, the dragon took off and flew towards Rook's Rest.

Daenys' only thought: I hope I'm not too late!

Which dragon will meet Aemond and Vhager above Rook's Rest?

This chapter wasn't really planned at all, but I wanted to buy myself some time with this chapter so that next week I can post two chapters about the fight at Rook's Rest and secondly, I want to thank everyone who votes for my chapters, reads my story and leaves comments. You guys are the best!🫶
