Daenys then stopped listening to her mother's words because she realised that Vermithor was also getting very angry. If he were human, Daenys would describe him as hot-headed and Silverwing as a kind soul. Vermithor's patience was wearing thin and he wanted to get going. Daenys observed the people in front of her and saw that some were extremely afraid of the two dragons. Who could blame them?'If anyone has anything to say, they should say it now. Otherwise, I wish you good luck.' Now Daenys couldn't stay calm. 'Yes, good luck trying not to get grilled. Because everyone should know that a dragon with a rider is very loyal and doesn't like to be claimed by anyone else. So, get your feet moving and good luck.' Daenys looked first at her dragons and then at her mother. Her mother was fuming with rage. She had warned them.
Daenys turned and walked away. The Dragonseed's screams could not be ignored. Why did it have to come to this? Why didn't her mum listen to her? So many questions were buzzing around in her head. Daenys now had to ask herself the question: if her mother didn't finally realise that this was definitely the wrong path, could she ever become a good queen? She would have to speak to her mother again and then sit down with her grandmother. What had gone wrong?
Near the castle, Daenys sat down on a rock and waited, recognising her mother, Mysaria and Baela in the distance. 'How could you?' Daenys looked at her mother in disbelief. 'How could I? You led them to MY dragons and portrayed MY dragons as riderless. You don't think Vermithor and Silverwing would put up with that. You're lucky they both stayed calm for so long. If Meraxes had been there, she would have rained her flames down on you. She doesn't play these games. I told you that I don't want this and that there will only be casualties. This is not my mother, because she would never have done this. I don't know what happened, but if you don't change, I don't know if you can rule a kingdom at all.' Rhaenyra gave her eldest child a resounding slap. 'You're not talking to me like that? Got it!'
Daenys looked at her mother, stunned. That didn't really just happen, did it? 'I talk to you in a way that no one else seems to. You are blinded, mother. Revenge has changed you. Grandfather wouldn't have wanted it this way. You're playing into the other side's hands with your actions. They will use them against you. Aegon is nowhere to be found and as far as I know, they have now put Aemond on the throne. He won't be giving it up any time soon. Wake up, mother! This is not what you wanted. This is not the way you wanted to go. Don't you regret anything?' 'Yes, I do regret one thing, YOU.'
That was too much! Daenys stood up and walked past the three women. 'If these are really your thoughts towards me, then I will no longer stop you from running to your damnation. You've already lost a son, now your daughter too. Soon you will have none of us left by your side.' Tears were already streaming down her cheeks on the way to Silverwing. Daenys climbed onto Silverwing's back and she took off. Vermihor and Silverwing flew towards Dorne.
Was this still a person she wanted to follow, a person she wanted to fight for?
