Two days after Luke's funeral, a message reached Dragonstone that made everyone's blood run cold. Daemon had a terrible idea. He hired two men to kill Aemond. Because a son for a son. Only these men didn't kill Aemond, but Helaena's and his son. When Daenys heard this, she wanted to write a letter to Helaena but knew that it would probably never reach her. Everyone in her mother's council was not very happy about what Daemon had done, as this would now be pinned on Rhaenyra.
Daemon and Rhaenyra then had a huge argument and Daemon left Dragonstone for Harrenhal. Daenys didn't know what to make of it all. So she went to her dragons and sat down on the ground. This was where she felt most comfortable and could think about things, including her next steps. Her brother Jace left for The Vale in the early hours of the morning to negotiate with Lady Arryn.
Sometime later, Daenys and her mother were standing in the Room of the Painted Table. 'Mother, House Frye has a good location. We should get them on our side. The twins' location is perfect for connecting our armies.' 'True, but I can't send you there.' Daenys thought for a moment and then looked at her mother with a determined look. 'Send me. I'll fly there with Silverwing and convince Lord Frye of our side. He and his wife will be afraid of Vhagar, but Silverwing has almost reached Vhagar's size. She's just as scary, even though she's an incredibly gentle soul, but they don't know that. I'll keep an eye out and if anything goes wrong, Vermithor and Meraxes will be with me before you know it.' 'All right. I'll send you to the twins. You can do this. I'll send a letter to Lord Frye that you'll get there.' With that, Rhaenyra walked out of the room and Daenys went to her room to change.
A little while later, Daenys was sitting on Silverwing's back and was on her way to the twins. Once there, she got off Silverwing's back and was escorted by guards to Lord and Lady Frye, who were already waiting for the young princess. 'Princess Daenys, it is an honour to have you with us.' 'Thank you very much, Lord Frye. But let's get straight to the point. You know why I'm here?' 'Of course, Queen Rhaenyra wants us as her allies. The only question is, what can you offer us? We're not going to war against this dragon. We will only perish there.' 'Is that your only fear? A dragon that is miles away?' 'Our only fear?' Lady Frye cried out indignantly. 'This dragon, which is miles away, can reduce our entire land to rubble in one go. We didn't fall on our heads, Princess.' Lord Frye had a serious look on his face as he spoke the next words. 'We want Harrenhal and protection against this dragon, otherwise House Frye will not become one of your mother's allies.' Daenys listened carefully, but had had enough of this idiocy. 'Harrenhal isn't mine to just let it fall into the hands of the first best. But I will gladly tell my mother. You've said many times now that you're afraid of Vhagar, a dragon miles away.' Daenys was brusquely interrupted by Lady Frye. 'Rightly so. That dragon is a beast. We would be foolish not to be afraid of it.' 'What I was going to say before I was so harshly interrupted. It's stupid to be afraid of something that's so far away when there's someone very close that you should be afraid of.' 'You want us to be afraid of you? Don't make me laugh.' Daenys had had enough and stood up. 'You can also send your answer to my mother by raven, but I'll tell you one thing, if you choose the wrong side, I'll gladly feed you to my dragon.' At that moment, Daenys turned round and Silverwing reared up to her full size and let out a menacing roar. Daenys had to smile for a moment, because she loved her dragons more than anything and her bond with them.
Lord and Lady Frye saw Silverwing at that moment and both had to swallow hard. This is what the young princess meant. Neither of them had to think for long and Lord Frye called after Daenys. 'House Frye stands with Queen Rhaenyra. Our land is yours.' Daenys turned round one last time and spoke to both of them. 'You will receive instructions from my mother by raven. Thank you for your support.'
When she arrived at Dragonstone, Daenys informed her mother about House Frye. Her mother was naturally very proud of her daughter. No one had heard from Daemon and Jace was safe.
