Aegon sat down next to Daenys and looked around a little. 'You only ever came with Vermithor, why?' 'To be honest, Silverwing was the dragon I travelled with the first and second time we met. After that, it was always Vermithor. I can't even tell you why. Maybe it was just the fear that one day we'll be followed by someone, and that person will see that I have more than just one dragon. I am sorry. I should have told you this. Please don't think that I don't trust you. I trust you blindly.' 'I understand that. I trust you blindly too. What does Cregan want to talk to me about? We hardly know each other, do we?' Daenys turned her face to Aegon and began to laugh. 'He wants to talk to you about dating his sister.' Laughing so hard, she could barely get the sentence out. 'Oh dear.' Aegon scratched his head in embarrassment. He hadn't expected anything like this.

Aegon and Daenys sat leaning arm in arm against Meraxes for a while, enjoying the peace and quiet. Meraxes and Silverwing accepted the boy at their young rider's side. Sunfyre lay a little apart, but close to Vermithor, as he was the only one, he knew. Shadow settled into the entrance of the cave and began to slumber. 'We should go to Winterfell.' Daenys expression was no longer so cheerful, but sad. 'Dany, what's wrong? Why are you here anyway?' 'Arra, Cregan's wife and my best friend passed away after the birth of her son and I just had to come here. When I was here, Cregan told me that she had a last wish and had not yet been buried. Arra wished to be buried Targaryen-style. Her wish was also for this to be carried out by Meraxes. She was always enthusiastic about the dragons and apparently especially about Meraxes. It hurts so much.' Daenys started to cry and couldn't stop. She tried to be strong for Cregan all the time, but with Aegon she could let go. It broke Aegon's heart to see his sweetheart like this and he took her in his arms and tried to comfort her. So that's what Helaena meant.

They both stood there for a while. After Daenys tears had dried, they both went to Winterfell. Nora met them there and took Daenys to her room and Aegon to Cregan, who wanted to talk to him. 'Thank you, Aunt Nora.' Cregan turned to Aegon and pointed to the chair opposite him. Aegon sat down in this chair and Cregan sat down in the one opposite. 'Daenys is like a little sister to me. I've known her since she was a few weeks old. What are your intentions?' 'I love her more than my own life and would do anything to keep her safe.' 'That's good to hear. But rest assured, if you hurt her, I will make your life a living hell. I can promise you that it won't just be me who makes your life a living hell, but the whole North.' 'I wouldn't expect anything less, but what do you mean by the whole North?' 'Daenys was sent to Winterfell by her mother shortly after her birth, along with my aunt, so that she could grow up protected and away from the vipers in King's Landing. She grew up here like one of us. Every Lord, every Lady, every Northerner would give and do anything for Daenys. She's brought so much warmth and kindness here and we'll all always have her back.' 'I didn't know that, but I can understand it. You can't trust my mum, my grandfather and even my brother Aemond.' They both talked some more about many different things.

'You know, you're not so bad.' 'I can only say that back, Cregan.' 'If you two start snogging now, you won't live much longer.' Cregan and Aegon were both startled and looked towards the door. Daenys was standing there, grinning gleefully as she was able to scare them both. 'The only person I would kiss in this room is you, my love.' Daenys moved to the two of them and took another chair and sat down. 'I'm glad you two are getting on so well and are now friends.' Aegon's gaze suddenly became very thoughtful.

'Aegon, is everything all right?' 'Not really. Something's brewing in King's Landing and I know my mother and grandfather are behind it.' 'What do you mean?' Aegon looked at Cregan. 'My mother and grandfather want the power my father holds. His health is deteriorating and from the looks of it, he most likely won't live much longer. Since Rhaenyra is not in King's Landing, I imagine they will try to usurp her throne.' 'That is possible. We need a plan.' Daenys wasn't happy that her mother didn't know anything about it, but an idea was needed. 'If it comes to my family wanting to steal the throne, they'll put me on it. I'm the eldest son. If I refuse, I don't know what will happen.' Aegon looked towards the ground. He doesn't want the throne. It belongs to Rhaenyra and then Daenys. Cregan and Daenys noticed Aegon's attitude and looked at each other. Without exchanging words, they both knew what the other was thinking.

'Aegon, my love, should that day come, you will not fight it. We will find a way, but I believe your brother would be a cruel king. I will try to help you from the shadows, but I will also try to help my mother. A war will be inevitable if your mother and grandfather put you on the throne.' 'That is my fear. I don't want to have to fight you. I can't' 'Aegon, Daenys is right. We'll think of something, and we'll get through this.'

Daenys, Aegon and Cregan continued to sit and talk about what was coming and what they could do. One thing was clear to all three of them: peace and quiet would be over for the time being if King Viserys were to die.
