It felt like an eternity. When Aegon broke the kiss, he looked deep into Daenys' eyes. He tried to read what she was feeling at that moment. He himself now knew that Helaena was right. He was head over heels in love. The fear that Daenys didn't have the same feelings for him was omnipresent. What would he do if she didn't love him?

Daenys' cheeks gradually turned red, and she smiled shyly. At that moment, she also realised that Helaena was right. 'She was right.' At these words, Daenys looked at Aegon and realised that he was waiting for something. 'That's right. In the end, we have her to thank for this moment, Aegon. Can I ask you for something?' 'Anything.' 'Then kiss me again.'

Aegon definitely didn't need to be told twice and kissed Daenys again. Vermithor, who was watching this interaction, slowly had enough of the two making out and nudged Aegon so that he fell to the ground. 'Vermithor! You can't do that.' Daenys leant over to Aegon to help him up. But he had a completely different idea and pulled her down to the ground. Now they were both lying on the ground. Some time passed, during which they both just lay there and looked at each other.

'Even though it's hard for me to say, you should go back to King's Landing, not that your absence will be noticed.' 'I'm afraid I must agree with you. I should be on my way home.' They both shared another tender kiss goodbye and promised to write and see each other. Aegon climbed onto Sunfyre's back and the golden dragon lifted off the ground. With one last look at Daenys and Vermithor, Aegon and Sunfyre disappeared into the clouds.

'Surely you weren't jealous that I gave Aegon my attention and not you.' Daenys laughed heartily and stroked Vermithor's muzzle. She stayed with him for a while longer and decided to take him for a ride. Daenys felt most at home among the clouds and on the back of her dragons. There she could switch off and enjoy the peace and quiet.

As it was still the middle of the night, Daenys made her way back to the castle and went to bed with a big grin on her face. She quickly fell asleep. The next morning, Daenys, Rhaenys and Corlys had breakfast together and talked about Daenys' childhood in Winterfell and about Laenor. Afterwards, Daenys made her way to Vermithor with her two letters. He lay dutifully in the grass and raised his head briefly to receive his greeting. Daenys sat down next to her dragon and began to read one letter after the other.

She liked exchanging letters, but they would never replace face-to-face conversations. Daenys made a mental note to reply to both later. Leaning against Vermithor, Daenys fell asleep. Vermithor, noticing this, curled up around his young rider to protect her. Half the morning passed with Daenys snuggled up to her dragon. 'Well, I really did fall asleep. Thank you, Vermithor, for always protecting me.' Daenys kissed the Bronze Fury on his snout.

As Daenys walked back into the castle, she passed a door that was only ajar. The voices of her grandparents came from the room. Daenys was never one to eavesdrop, but at that moment she couldn't help herself. 'Rhaenys, the king's health isn't getting any better. If anything, it's getting worse. Eventually, he'll barely be able to do anything on his own, and then those vipers will strike.' 'I know, Corlys, and not only do I know it, but Daenys does too. She realises a lot more than we all think. No matter what may come in the years to come, I will do everything I can to protect her. Laenor would have wanted that too.' 'Laenor loved Daenys like his own daughter and he would have done as much for her. Rhaenys, I will support you in this. Because as you said, Laenor would have wanted it that way.'

At her grandparents' words, tears ran down Daenys cheeks. She ran out of the castle and towards the beach of Driftmark. Once there, her tears ran unstoppably down her cheeks. She missed him so much and she could never really say goodbye to him. So much was going through her mind.

Why would her grandparents say something like that? Will there really be a war for the throne? Her mind was racing and Daenys tried to clear her head again. Burying her feet in the sand, she looked out into the distance. Until suddenly something or someone moved next to her. Slowly, she turned in the direction from which the movement came and saw Seasmoke. The dragon of her deceased father. What would happen now? Would he try to set her on fire like Cannibal? Would he ignore her or come at her?
