At Rook's Rest
The battle became increasingly heated, and Lord Staunton's men tried everything possible to stop Cole's army from getting any closer. Arrows flew every second, but the opposing army was prepared for this. Lord Staunton hoped that his raven would reach the queen in time for her to send help. His men would not last long.
With Rhaenys
After taking off from Dragonstone, Meleys flew at a steady but rapid pace towards Rook's Rest. It broke her heart to see her granddaughter so sad, but she had to do this. Who else would Rhaenyra have sent, perhaps her daughter after all? Rhaenys couldn't have let that happen. Even though Daenys was not her biological granddaughter and not Laenor's biological child, Rhaenys loved the young girl as her own. She knew how much Daenys loved her father Laenor and she would protect her. No matter what, even if it cost Rhaenys her life.
At Rook's Rest
Lord Staunton's men held their own against their opponents. Their arrows often hit their target. Cole, who was watching the action from a distance, waited for a dragon to arrive so that he could signal Aemond. Gwayne Hightower, who acted as his second officer, rode up beside him. 'Cole, what's your plan? Just stand around here and not actually make any big moves? Our foot soldiers are slowly being killed one by one by arrows.' 'Calm down, Gwayne. It's about to get very interesting.' With a, evil grin, Cole looked up at the sky and hoped that the plan he and Aemond had come up with would work.
On the battlefield, more and more men were being hit by arrows and some were bringing in battering rams and catapults. They were just about to move the catapults into position when one of the men looked up into the air. 'Dragon!' The men began to run.
With Rhaenys
Rook's rest came closer and closer into her sight. She leaned a little further forward and yelled, 'Drakarys Meleys!'
Rook's Rest
Lord Staunton and his men heard the dragon roar and at that moment Meleys flew over the men and began to bathe the enemy's army in flames. Again, and again, Meleys rose back into the air to turn and continue to bathe the battlefield in flames.
Cole signalled one of his warriors to give the signal, which filtered through several men to Aemond. Vhagar rose slowly. Aemond prepared to attack with her now. At that moment he heard another dragon roar and looked up into the sky and saw his brother's dragon. 'What an idiot. Wait Vhagar, not yet.' Vhagar sank back into the high grass.
With Aegon
Aegon left King's Landing together with Sunfyre and flew towards Rook's Rest. He was more than determined to topple this trap. There was to be no more bloodshed. Had Daenys received the warning and passed it on? Had Rhaenyra listened to her daughter? If not, who would she send to Rook's Rest? Would he get there in time?
Sunfyre flew as fast as he could to get to Rook's Rest. He let out a melodic roar and Aegon saw Aemond below him with Vhagar. He hadn't been able to attack yet. Aegon's gaze darted forward and saw another dragon. In size, this dragon looked like Meleys. Rhaenys had been sent to Rook's Rest. Aegon knew how much Daenys meant to her grandmother. He had to act, but quickly.
Rook's Rest
Rhaenys saw another dragon approaching. What is Aegon Targaryen doing here? He had warned Daenys. What was going on here?
Gwayne looked up and turned to Cole. 'Whose dragon is that?' 'It's the king's dragon!' Gwayne was shocked, was this the mysterious plan? How stupid could anyone be?
Sunfyre and Meleys collided in the air and to everyone it looked like the two dragons were fighting. 'Rhaenys, what are you doing here? Did my warning not reach Daenys?' He was now putting all his cards on the table. 'She warned us, but her mother didn't want to hear it. Better me, like Daenys. The better question is, what are you doing here? Daenys will need you!' 'I can't let Daenys lose any more of the people she loves. You have to escape. Aemond is waiting back there with Vhagar and I don't think he'll wait much longer. He will attack me too. He is power-hungry and unpredictable.'
At that moment, they both heard a deep roar. Vhagar was on her way. Aegon and Rhaenys looked at each other and both knew they couldn't give up their cover so easily. Vhagar came closer and closer, and they both heard Aemond shout to his dragon: 'Drakarys!' With that, the flames shot out of Vhagar's mouth. Meleys managed to save herself from the flames in time. Sunfyre, on the other hand, only managed to turn so that his rider would not be hit. Aegon hoped that Sunfyre was not too badly injured, but the dragon could no longer stay in the air and crashed into the forest.
A battle for life and death began between Meleys and Vhagar.
With Daenys
Daenys could already make out two fighting dragons in the distance. Meleys and Vhagar. Hopefully she wouldn't be too late. She leant far forwards and stroked her dragon's scales. Both came closer and closer and Daenys called out in a firm and authoritative voice: 'Idakōs ...

Part 2 will follow this weekend.

However, two things are still open at the moment, namely which dragon flies to Rook's Rest with Daenys on its back (Meraxes, Vermithor or Silverwing) and how would you like to see the outcome of Rook's Rest (Vhagar's death, Vhagar seriously wounded...)?
