The Dragon in the North

After the letter arrived in Winterfell and Daenys read it, several days passed. Daenys had just returned from a flight with her dragons when she heard another dragon roar. Syrax!

Rhaenyra landed Syrax outside Winterfell and dismounted from her dragon. As soon as Rhaenyra stood with both feet on the ground, her daughter flew into her arms.

'Muña, what are you doing here? I'm so glad to see you. I've missed you so much.' 'My little zaldrīzes, I'm so sorry I only came here now. I'm so sorry you didn't get to say goodbye to both.' 'It's okay, Muña. I understand why I'm here and why you didn't tell me. I may only be six years old, but I realise more than some people think. I love you, Muña, and I'm glad you're here.' 'I love you too, my little zaldrīzes.'

After a brief conversation with Lord Stark, Daenys and her mother Rhaenyra went to the cave where her two dragons reside. Shadow followed them both loyally.

'Daenys, tell me, what have you been up to in the last few weeks since I last visited? 'Mh.... Cregan and I each got a Direwolf puppy. Mine is called Shadow and he gets on very well with Meraxes and Silverwing. Septa Ona only talks to me in High Valyrian in our lessons now, as she thinks I've mastered the language perfectly. My training is still a lot of fun too. We've also started archery now. I think that's it. Is there anything new with you apart from what happened with Dad and Aunt Laena?' 'That sounds very good. Then I'll remember that our next talks will be in High Valyrian during my stay.' As soon as Rhaenyra had spoken this sentence, Daenys interrupted her eagerly. 'You're staying longer?' 'Yes, I'll be here for a few days and enjoy them with you.'

Daenys and Rhaenyra enjoyed the remaining days and talked a lot, went dragon riding together and had wonderful mother-daughter moments.

'Daenys, before I leave for Dragonstone again, there's something I need to tell you.' 'Okay, is everything all right?'

'I married your biological father, Daemon, in a traditional Valyrian wedding ceremony. I hope you're not angry.' 'I understand that Muña. Don't worry about me.' 'My little zaldrīzes, I will miss you very much.' 'I'll miss you too, mum.'

And so, the days they had spent together came to an end and Princess Rhaenyra returned to Dragonstone.

'Corlys, I must go to Winterfell. I need to see Daenys and find out how she's doing. She hasn't responded to my letter. I'm worried.' 'Then go, Rhaenys, or you'll have no peace. I'll hold the fort here. Give our little dragon a big hug from me.'

So Rhaenys Targaryen set off on her journey to Winterfell on the back of her dragon Meleys.

'Cregan, you need to take better care of your stance!'

Three days had passed since Rhaenyra left Winterfell and Daenys and Cregan were in their archery lesson when they heard a dragon roar.

'Daenys, that wasn't one of yours, was it? 'No, Cregan. That sounds a lot like Meleys, my grandmother Rhaenys' dragon.' At that moment, Meleys started her descent and was now visible to everyone in Winterfell. Rhaenys let Meleys land in the courtyard in front of the castle and dismounted from the Red Queen. Once on the ground, she headed straight over to Daenys and embraced her. At that moment, tears welled up in Daenys' eyes again. Meleys flew away at the same moment and landed near Meraxes and Silverwing's cave.

'Daenys, my little zaldrīzes. I had to come and see how you are. You didn't answer my letter.' 'I'm sorry, Grandma. Muña was here until three days ago and I forgot to answer you. But I'm glad to see you.'

Daenys and Rhaenys went for a walk around Winterfell. They both talked about anything and everything. Talking to Rhaenys about what had happened did Daenys a lot of good and together they were able to give each other a little more strength. Their walk ended near the three dragon ladies.

'Meraxes and Silverwing seem very relaxed. Even though Meleys is here right now.' 'They both know that you are no danger to me and so they are very relaxed. I recently got a Direwolf puppy, and they accepted Shadow straight away. It's always cute when he comes here with me. He keeps running around them until one of them agrees to let him climb on their back so he can slide over their wings into the snow.' 'I'm glad to hear that you have such a close bond with both. I don't think this has ever happened before. You should consider yourself very lucky.' 'I am, to be honest, and I'm grateful for my Silver Duo every day.

Rhaeny's visit came to an end the very next morning. The night before, Rhaenys read Daenys a bedtime story.

'It was nice having you here. I'm going to miss you.' 'I'll miss you a lot too, my little zaldrīzes, but I'm sure we'll see each other again very soon.' With a long hug, Rhaenys said goodbye to Daenys and made her way back.
