'Idakōs Vermithor!' He didn't need to be told twice, and Daenys felt as if he had increased his speed once more. His thunderous roar rang out across Rook's Rest.

Gwayne Hightower looked up into the sky, startled. Above him, Vhagar fought with Meleys. The sounds of the two dragons did not sound good. Cole rode beside Gwayne. 'Cole, you said this trap was safe. Then who is that dragon that comes flying in from back there?' At that moment, they heard another thunderous roar from the other dragon, which already looked bigger than Vhagar. 'I have no idea, Gwayne. It wasn't planned like this.' Panic spread between the two of them.

Vhagar and Meleys fought incessantly in the air. Rhaenys hoped that Meleys would hold on and not get hurt any more.

Daenys held on tightly to Vermithor and lay almost pressed on top of him. Vermithor was not far away when they both heard the painful roars of Meleys. At that moment, Daenys felt an irrepressible rage and hatred rise within her. Her whole posture now reflected the rage and hatred she felt. If anyone saw her at that moment, they would not believe that this was the loving Princess Daenys. Vermithor noticed the change in his rider's emotions, and you could literally see the anger and hatred radiating from him.

Rhaenys also heard the thunderous roar and tried to look in the direction of the sound. There she saw Vermithor. What was Daenys doing here? She should be safe on Dragonstone. Rhaenys suddenly realised that Vermithor was going to intervene in this fight. She tried to steer Meleys so that she was under Vhagar. She managed to do this just in time, because Vermithor suddenly grabbed Vhagar with his talons, causing her to let go of Meleys. Meleys just managed to turn round and fly as far as possible to safety.

Meanwhile, Vermithor and Vhagar fought a relentless battle in the air. Despite his size, he managed to evade Vhagar's bites and grabs.

With Aegon

Aegon freed himself from his saddle and took a closer look at Sunfyre. Sunfyre had been badly injured by Vhagar's flames and lay on the ground, breathing heavily. It pained Aegon to see his best friend so injured. He looked up into the sky and what he saw there took his breath away. That was Vermithor fighting Vhagar up there. So Daenys had come. He could have guessed that she wouldn't allow to lose anyone else and Vermithor wouldn't allow his rider to get hurt. He heard a muffled noise and turned in that direction. There he saw Meleys and ran to her. When he got to Meleys, he saw Rhaenys already sitting next to her dragon. 'Rhaenys, are you all right?' 'Aegon, promise me something. Take care of Daenys, protect her.' Aegon was about to reply when Rhaenys lost consciousness. He was shocked and knelt down next to her to feel her pulse. It was quite weak. Meleys, who was injured herself, turned her head towards the two people and didn't know what to do. Aegon turned to Meleys. 'Meleys, can you take me and Rhaenys to a safe place? Daenys had written in her letter that she wanted to go to Dorne.' Meleys signalled to Aegon that she would try. Before he would climb on her back, he ran to Sunfyre once more. 'My golden friend, I will fly to Dorne together with Meleys and Rhaenys. I don't want to leave you here. Sunfyre.' The pain was clear in his voice. Sunfyre nudged Aegon in the direction where Meleys was waiting, signalling to him that it was alright.

Aegon ran back to Meleys and hoisted Rhaenys onto Meleys' saddle and sat behind it, holding her so she wouldn't fall off. 'Sōvegon Meleys.' Meleys took off and started flying towards Dorne.

With Daenys and Vermithor

The battle continued between the two dragons. The snapping of mouths and the beating of wings were the only things the people could hear from the ground. It almost looked as if the two dragons were dancing with each other.  Vermithor managed to severely injure Vhagar's stomach several times with his talons. The blood flowed from her wounds. Vhagar also managed to injure Vermithor with her talons. Vermithor let out a short wheeze. This caused Daenys to startle and look down at her dragon with concern. At that moment, Vhagar tried to grab Daenys, because if the rider is killed or injured, the dragon can hardly act. But Vermithor realised that Vhagar's mouth was getting dangerously close to his rider, and at that moment his fighting style changed rapidly. No one would even begin to try to hurt his rider or even think about it. His protective instinct was sparked. Daenys also noticed this change and knew that if Meraxes and Silverwing had been nearby, they would now attack and kill Vhagar together with Vermithor. Vermithor's attacks became more brutal and faster. He had to bring this fight to an end. His talons wounded Vhagar again several times on her belly. With a smooth movement that was barely visible, he turned so that he caught Vhagar's wing with his huge snout and half tore it off. As he released the wing, he rose into the air and injured Vhagar's head with his claws at the same moment. Now he was above Vhagar and glided downwards, sending Vhagar crashing towards the ground with a powerful blow. Daenys, who was now sitting upright on Vermithor's back, called down: 'Anyone who thought they could get away with their actions will get to know me properly.

She signalled Vermithor to fly after Meleys, for she had only come to save her grandmother, and the fact that Vermithor managed to hurt Vhagar so badly in the process was like a balm to her soul. Vermithor let out another deep roar that made the people on the ground shudder, but then took off in the direction of Meleys. He flew as fast as he could to catch up with Meleys. At Rook's Rest, both left behind a badly injured Vhagar and a pissed-off Aemond. The latter couldn't believe it, the plan had failed!

Daenys saw Meleys in front of her and almost shouted to the red queen: 'Grandmother, Meleys!' When Daenys finally managed to catch up, she was more than surprised. What was Aegon doing here? When she saw her grandmother, only one question crossed her mind: was she dead?
