The moment Rhaenys entered the room, Daenys left unnoticed. She already knew what the appearance of her grandmother meant. Daenys ran as fast as she could to the beach where her brothers were training. She wanted them to find out from her. She didn't feel comfortable making Aegon look like the bad guy, but they both knew it was coming. 'Jace, Luke, can you come here, please?' Both boys dropped their weapons and ran to their older sister. 'Dany, what's going on?' 'Jace, Luke, Grandpa Viserys has passed away. The Hightowers have put Aegon on the throne, stealing Mother's birthright.' 'That can't be right. That's not possible. What kind of...' 'JACE! Hold your tongue.' Jace looked down at the ground, embarrassed. Luke, who was watching his older siblings interact, had to hold back his tears.
'Princess Daenys, your mother wants to see you. 'I'm coming.' She turned briefly to her brothers again and spoke to Jace, 'Daemon is going to do something stupid. Please find him and stop him. Mum's the one who says how it's going to go now, not him.' 'I'll do that.' Daenys ran to her mother, who was already sitting on the floor in front of her bed with tears in her eyes. 'My zaldrīzes, my only daughter, my heir. Daenys, I don't want to lose you.' 'You won't. Was that my little sister?' 'Yes, we were going to call her Visenya. Not only did they kill my father and my daughter, but also stole my throne. What should we do now?' She had never seen her mother like this before. 'Mum, we should demand the oath of every great house that they swore to grandfather and you. But get some rest.' Daenys gestured to the midwife to take the bundle from her mother's arms. 'Mum, she's going to have the funeral of a Targaryen. But please let the midwife and the others prepare Visenya for it.' Daenys felt bad having to do this, but her mother didn't have the strength at that moment.
The next morning, everyone present gathered in front of Dragonstone to pay their last respects to Visenya. Daenys heart felt so heavy, but it had to be done. Her mother could not do this again. The huge head of Vermithor loomed over the small bundle and looked to his rider, awaiting her command. Daenys looked at her family one last time and then turned to Vermithor and spoke in a shaky voice: 'Drakarys!' At that moment, Vermihor let his flames dance downwards and Visenya had her Targaryen funeral. After a moment of silence, all present heard a commotion. 'I come in peace and with a gift. My Queen, I swear to serve you and to defeat any who would do you harm.' Ser Erryk Cargyll knelt before Rhaenyra and held out the crown of her deceased father and grandfather. Daemon took the crown from his hand and stood directly in front of Rhaenyra. He placed the crown on Rhaenyra's head and knelt before her, saying, 'Long live our queen, Rhaenyra Targaryen.' He stood up again and turned round, now looking into the faces of all those present. 'Before you stands Rhaenyra Targaryen, First of her Name, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Queen of the Andals and the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lady of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.' Everyone bowed to their queen. The only ones who did not bow were Rhaenys Targaryen and Daenys Targaryen. Rhaenys didn't bow on principle, because in her opinion the only queen she would bow to was her granddaughter Daenys.
That afternoon, everyone was called to the Chamber of the Painted Table. The next steps had to be planned. Daenys was the last person to come into the room, as she had been with her dragons and Shadow beforehand. 'You have something that has not been seen in such numbers since the times of Old Valyria. Dragons, your majesty.' 'I will not rule over ashes. 'Rhaenyra, he's right we have more dragons than these Hightowers.' Everyone looked at Daemon and many expected more from his speech. 'The Greens only have Sunfyre, Dreamfyre and Vhagar. We have Caraxes, Syrax, Vermax, Arrax, Moondancer, Tyraxes, Meleys, Silverwing, Vermithor and Meraxes.' Daenys and Rhaenys looked at Daemon in disbelief. Rhaenys because she hadn't actually agreed to go to war for this cause and Daenys because she didn't really want to expose her dragons to this chaos.
'Our dragons have never been at war, except for Meraxes and maybe Vermithor. But Daenys has never been to war. I'm not going to risk any lives. We should first try to remind the great houses of their oath.' 'My queen, we will send the ravens.' At that moment, Jace interjected, 'Mother send us. Dragons are faster than ravens.' 'All right.' Rhaenyra and her three children walked outside. Rhaenys would guard the Gullet and patrol along with Meleys.
'Mother let me go to Winterfell. I grew up there.' 'That's right. Daenys you will fly to Winterfell and remind Lord Stark of his father's oath. Jace, Luke, you will both fly to Stormsend.' 'Mother, wouldn't it make more sense to send them both to Lady Arryn and leave Lord Baratheon to Daemon. I don't know if he would listen to either of them.' 'I'll think about it, but I wish you a safe flight.' Rhaenyra kissed her daughter on the cheek and Daenys took her two brothers in her arms, hugged them tightly and whispered words of encouragement in their ears. She then ran to her dragons and climbed onto Meraxes back. All three dragons took off and flew towards Winterfell.
When she arrived in Winterfell, Cregan and Aegon were already waiting for her. 'Aegon, what are you doing here?' 'I knew you would convince your mother to come here, and I needed to see you.' 'We need to come up with a plan for what to do next. I'll leave you two alone for a moment.' 'Daenys, I'm terrified of losing you. I can't lose you. Not like this, not now.' 'Aegon, what are you trying to tell me?' 'Marry me. Here and now.' Daenys looked at Aegon but saw no hint of a joke or anything similar.
That evening, Daenys, Aegon, Cregan, Nora and Septa Ona stood in front of the Heart Tree and married Daenys and Aegon according to the Old Gods of Valyria. Both cut a finger with dragonglass and smeared a trail of blood across each other's faces. Now they were joined. They were one. He belonged to her and she belonged to him. They kissed deeply and passionately. What happened that night in their bedchamber remains in there. (and is left to your imagination😉)
The next morning started early for everyone. Daenys, Cregan and Aegon sat together in Cregan's study and talked about all that was about to happen. 'My mother and grandfather have sent Aemond to Stormsend.' 'WHAT? That's not good. I did tell my mum not to send Jace and Luke there. But what if she didn't listen to me and sent them there?' The panic in Daenys voice was unmistakable and the fear in her eyes was more than present. 'I'm sure she listened to you. Why wouldn't she?' Aegon tried to reassure his beloved. 'Cregan, my mum will send you a letter as soon as she knows you're on her side. There will be instructions in it. Please follow them. Aegon, try to be a good king for the people. Maybe try to prevent some things from happening. If necessary, kick your grandfather out. Aemond will be a difficult subject. I'll try to keep you both informed.' 'I will too.' The planning was cut short as the door opened and a note was handed to Cregan. He passed the note to Daenys, who read through it and sat there transfixed.
