You had always been an ENHYPEN fan, but this was different. This was your first fan meet, and your nerves were through the roof. You clutched the signed album in your hands as you waited in line, watching fans ahead of you excitedly interact with the members. It seemed like they were all glowing, talking and laughing with ease, but here you were, completely unsure of how you'd hold a normal conversation with Heeseung – Lee Heeseung, the guy who'd unknowingly stolen your heart with his voice, his goofy sense of humor, and his handsome face.
Your friends had teased you relentlessly when you admitted how excited you were. "Just don't trip over your words when you meet him," they joked.
Easy for them to say, you thought, as your palms grew clammy with every step closer to the table where Heeseung sat, looking cool and unbothered. He was laughing at something Sunghoon had just said, his wide smile making your heart race even faster.
The line was moving fast, too fast. You weren't ready. But before you knew it, you were next. You took a deep breath as you stepped up, feeling your heart pound loudly in your ears.
"Hi," you blurted out, trying to calm your nerves.
Heeseung looked up, his eyes lighting up in recognition of the fan standing before him – you. And then he smiled. *Oh no.* His smile was even more dazzling in person.
"Hey!" He greeted you warmly, the soft lilt of his voice instantly making you feel less anxious. "How's it going?"
Your brain froze. What was I supposed to say? You had rehearsed this moment a hundred times in your head, but now that you were here, all your witty comebacks and charming words evaporated. All you managed was:
"I...um...I like your hat."
Heeseung blinked, clearly not expecting that, and then broke into a chuckle. You cringed internally. Your hat? You were going to talk about his hat? He wasn't even wearing one!
"Oh, thanks," he said, playing along. "I, uh, worked really hard on this invisible hat. Glad you like it."
You blinked in confusion before realizing your mistake. Oh no. You wanted to melt into the floor. "I mean—wait, no—I meant to say hair. I like your hair. Your hair is really nice today."
Heeseung's smile widened as he leaned forward slightly, clearly enjoying this. "Well, thank you! I guess I do have to thank my hair stylist for the hard work."
You laughed nervously, feeling a blush creep up your neck. You could sense Sunghoon and Jake, sitting beside Heeseung, subtly watching the interaction. They exchanged a smirk, and you swore you heard Jake whisper something like, "Poor girl."
Determined not to make this any more awkward than it already was, you gathered your courage. "I...I just wanted to say I'm a huge fan of yours. Your vocals are amazing, and your performances are always so captivating."
There it was. Your genuine compliment. Finally!
Heeseung's expression softened. "Thank you. That really means a lot to me. It's because of fans like you that we can do what we love."
You could feel your heart flutter at his sincerity. Heeseung always had a way of making his fans feel seen and appreciated. You smiled, feeling slightly more relaxed now.
"Do you have anything you'd like me to sign?" Heeseung asked, gesturing to the album in your hands.
"Oh, right!" You handed it over, and as he signed it, you couldn't help but blurt out, "Do you get nervous at these fan meets?"
Heeseung paused mid-signature, raising an eyebrow with an amused smile. "Me? Nervous? Nah, not really. Well, unless someone tells me they like my hat when I'm not wearing one."
Your eyes widened, realizing he was teasing you, and you let out a soft laugh, the awkwardness from earlier melting away.
"Okay, that's fair. I totally deserved that," you admitted, shaking your head.
Heeseung grinned, handing your album back. "Don't worry. I thought it was cute."
You blushed again, trying to suppress the wide smile threatening to take over your face.
You smiled, feeling like you'd just experienced something surreal. You couldn't believe you'd survived the awkward start and were now leaving with a picture to remember it by.
As you were about to leave, Heeseung stopped you. "Hey, before you go..."
You turned around, surprised. "Yeah?"
He leaned forward slightly, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Next time, I'll make sure to wear a real hat, just for you."
Your jaw dropped as a small laugh escaped you. "Deal!" you agreed, your heart racing as you waved goodbye.
Walking away from the table, you could still hear Sunghoon and Jake chuckling from the sidelines, Jake muttering something about "invisible hats." But you didn't care. You had just had the funniest, most unexpected interaction with your idol, and you knew it was something you'd never forget.
As you left the venue, you looked down at the signed album in your hands. Underneath Heeseung's neat signature, he had scribbled a little note:
Thanks for liking my invisible hat. You're pretty cool.
You couldn't help but grin. This fan meet was better than you could have ever imagined.
