When you pull a birthday prank.
Birthdays were supposed to be exciting, but today was going to be different. Today, you had something up your sleeve—a little prank for your boyfriend, Heeseung, before delivering the ultimate surprise. You knew he had been talking about this one specific thing for months, and you'd gone above and beyond to get it. But first, the prank.
Heeseung woke up with a smile, as he always did on his birthday. As soon as his eyes fluttered open, he glanced over at you, expecting the usual "Happy Birthday!" greeting that you always gave him in the mornings. But instead, you continued scrolling on your phone, pretending to be completely oblivious.
"Morning," Heeseung mumbled, his voice slightly hoarse.
"Morning," you replied casually, not even sparing him a glance. You fought the urge to smile as you continued pretending to be completely disinterested.
Heeseung furrowed his brows, sitting up in bed. "Uh... are you okay?"
"Yeah, why?" you asked nonchalantly, still looking at your phone.
He blinked, now obviously confused. His birthday was something you always made a big deal out of, even bigger than he ever did. Last year, you threw him a surprise party with all of ENHYPEN, decorated the whole apartment with balloons, and even got him a cake shaped like his favorite video game character.
But this year? Nothing. Not a single "Happy Birthday," not a single hug. Nothing.
Heeseung ran a hand through his hair, trying to mask his disappointment. He got out of bed, looking at you for any sign that you remembered. Nothing. You were doing an excellent job of ignoring him, though it took everything in you not to break into laughter.
"I'm going to grab breakfast," he said, waiting for some kind of reaction. You hummed in response, eyes still glued to your phone.
As Heeseung headed to the kitchen, he was visibly deflated. While he waited for the coffee to brew, he couldn't help but check his phone. The rest of the world hadn't forgotten about his birthday—his notifications were flooded with birthday wishes from fans and messages from his members. Jake's text even read,
JAKE: Bet Y/N is spoiling you rotten today, huh? Lucky guy!
But the girl sitting in the living room? Apparently, she had forgotten.
Heeseung sighed, his heart sinking a little. He didn't need grand gestures, but not even a simple "Happy Birthday" from his girlfriend? That stung. He quietly poured himself a cup of coffee and sat down at the kitchen counter, scrolling through the messages with a half-hearted smile.
Meanwhile, you were trying to contain your laughter in the other room. You knew how Heeseung was feeling—he was probably questioning everything right now, wondering if you'd really forgotten his birthday. But that was all part of the plan. You were waiting for the perfect moment.
After breakfast, Heeseung moped around the apartment, throwing glances your way every now and then, hoping you would notice the date. At one point, he even "accidentally" dropped his phone in front of you, the screen clearly showing all the birthday wishes from his friends.
