When your parents think you both are dating.
The college reunion party was in full swing, and you couldn't help but feel a little out of place. The familiar faces of your parents' old friends filled the room, mingling and laughing as the dim lights gave everything a warm, nostalgic glow. You'd been dragged along for the evening, a mere plus-one to your parents' social event.
Heeseung, however, was your best friend. You two had been inseparable for years, and while your parents loved him like their own son, they also liked to tease you about the "special bond" you shared. This time, though, they might have taken it a little too far.
You looked over at Heeseung, who was standing next to you with a mischievous grin, his hands tucked casually into his pockets. You both had just made your way to the refreshment table, where your parents and his were already deep in conversation.
"Why do I feel like they're making it so obvious?" you whispered to Heeseung, your eyes darting to where your parents were standing, exchanging knowing glances.
Heeseung raised an eyebrow, a small chuckle escaping his lips. "What do you mean? They're just being friendly," he teased, his voice soft but playful.
You rolled your eyes. "Friendly? They're acting like we're married or something."
"They just really like us together," Heeseung said, pretending to take a sip from his drink as he studied the growing smile on your face. "Can't say I blame them."
"Oh, don't act like you're not enjoying this," you muttered, trying to hide your smile behind the glass of lemonade you were holding.
Heeseung just shrugged, clearly amused by your reaction. "What's not to enjoy? It's kind of cute, right?"
Before you could respond, your mom turned toward you, her smile knowing and eyes twinkling. She had that look—the one that said she was about to say something embarrassing. "You two are so sweet together," she commented loudly, causing Heeseung to choke on his drink. "Such a lovely couple. How long have you been dating now?"
Heeseung's eyes widened in surprise, and he quickly cleared his throat. "We're not—uh, we're not dating," he stammered, his usual calm demeanor slipping for a moment. You could see the panic creeping into his face.
Your heart skipped a beat, not because you cared about what your parents thought, but because you were used to this kind of teasing. You were best friends with Heeseung, and the thought of dating him never crossed your mind. But apparently, that wasn't the case for your parents.
Your mom's eyebrows shot up in disbelief. "You're not? Oh, I could've sworn..." She looked over at Heeseung's parents, who were watching you both with the same playful expressions. "You two seem so... comfortable with each other. Like you're already married!"
You could feel the heat creeping up your neck. Heeseung, on the other hand, was doing his best to keep a straight face, though the slight blush on his cheeks betrayed him.
You quickly stepped in, trying to salvage the situation. "Mom, come on. We're just friends," you said, giving Heeseung an exaggerated side-eye. "We're not that comfortable."
