"You have been amazing thank you!" I said to the crowd before exiting the stage
Another show done. Another step closer to home, wherever that may be. A closer to freedom and just being Nicky.
As I left the stage a strong smell of aftershave hit my nose catching me off guard slightly. It wasn't one of the usual scents of the 5sos boys or any of the crews that I could normally smell.
"You're pretty good at that performing thing" the accent I now knew as Yorkshire said from behind me making me smile
"Why thank you" I said smiling seeing Oli stood against the wall "do you often hide in dark places?" I asked as he laughed
"I didn't want you to see me watching you perform and think I was a freak" he said scratching his neck
"The only way you'd be a freak was if you acted the way that Luke does" I joked as he looked at me sympathetically
"Michael did mention some bits about you and Luke" he replied as I nodded "if it helps I think he's a bellend" he said quickly as I laughed
"Did you want to come chill out in my dressing room?" I asked as he nodded
"Lead the way"
I knew we only would have around 30 mins in my dressing room before he disappeared to watch the 5sos boys perform but there was something about Oli that just felt so familiar and like home. I was already able to laugh and feel relaxed around him and I wasn't about to waste an opportunity to feel at ease even if it was only for 30 minutes.
As we arrived at my dressing room the next 30 minutes were full of laughter, talks about music, his career and how I seem to be under a rock when it comes to his band, and a tour of his endless tattoos which covered almost every inch of his body.
"Thank you" I said as he looked at me confused
"For what?"
"For just being nice and making me laugh this evening it's been nice" I replied as he smiled before looking at his phone
"Shit they'll be on stage soon" he said as I nodded knowing he meant 5sos "I promised Michael I'd watch the show...that's why I'm here after all but do me a a favour Nicky" he said as I nodded
"A favour?"
"Yeah, join me for lunch tomorrow I can meet you at your tour bus then we decide where to go. I want to get to know you more" he suggested as I nodded a bit too quickly in response
"Sounds perfect I look forward to it"
"See you later Nicky" he said before leaving and taking the strong aftershave scent from the side of the stage with him.
As soon as he left my room I reached for my phone to call Kensie instantly needing my best friend. I hadn't felt this giddy as quickly about someone since I met Luke two years ago. I needed someone to snap me out of it as soon as possible.
"Nic?" A confused voice said as I smiled forgetting I wasn't on FaceTime and she couldn't see me
"Sorry if I woke you up I just need to tell you something" I replied quickly as she hummed in response to me "I've met this guy an-"
"YOUVE WHAT" she practically shouted with joy riddled through her voice
"Okay okay calm down Kens breathe" I replied knowing she was celebrating the possible exit of Luke from my life
"Tell me more then"
"Someone's suddenly awake" I snapped as I heard her tut
"I'll go if you don't start talking" she snapped back as I laughed
"His name is Oli, he's in some band....Bring me the horizon?" I said trying to see if she knew who he was
"Oli Sykes? You've met Oli fucking Sykes and called him some guy in some band are you nuts" she said with her voice getting higher with each word.
"I've definitely been living under a rock" I said as she laughed
"You're unbelievable Nic... tell me more"
"There's not much to tell, he's mates with Michael and has come to see a show. We met in the hallway briefly earlier and then he went and watched my set...but that's not where it ends he has just left my dressing room after half an hour being in here just laughing and chatting and now we're going out for lunch tomorrow" I blurted out barely breathing between words
"Jesus Christ Nicky" she laughed as I shook my head wanting her to tell me I'm crazy and need to cancel as I've just met the man "Go for it, meet him and make sure it's the best lunch you've ever gone on"
"Kensie that's not what I needed to hear you're supposed to talk me out of it!"
"Listen to me and listen good...you are never going to move on from that lanky toxic Australian if you don't start seeing what else is out there and this opportunity has been handed to you on a silver plate so take it and run with it the worst that happens is you have a new friend in Oli and it's a new connection in the industry" she explained as I nodded again forgetting she couldn't see me
"You're right"
"I know I am now I'm going back to sleep. Some of us have normal people jobs and are in a different country to you Nic" she laughed before I quickly thanked her for her advice before ending the call.
She was right. Beyond right. At the moment Luke was like a magnet I kept going back to as he was what I knew and I was comfortable with. I'd become comfortable with constantly being hurt. If I just tried with Oli even just for a meal god knows where it could go and she was right as well if it doesn't go anywhere romantically I still have an extra connection.
The only issue was I didn't want the others especially Luke and fans finding out. As we'd both agreed to continue our relationship on social media and appear civil how was I supposed to carry on with my life and not be spotted. Especially with something like this. One wrong photo and it's around Twitter like wildfire not just with my fans but 5sos fans and possibly bring me the horizon fans depending on if they're as nosey as mine and 5sos'.
However I wasn't about to put my life on hold for someone who had made my life a misery for the last few weeks. He's doing what he wants and didn't even have the decency to end our relationship before he met someone else so why should I feel guilty for going to lunch with someonej who at the moment is simply just a friend.
