--- Kota's POV ---
Asheville looked so weird after being in those L.A. lights.
As soon as we reached the baggage check, we hurried and grabbed our things, catching the first cab to Mission Hospital. Again, we had to take two separate cabs, but there were no faces or messing around on this ride.
We were silent and hopeful.
Hopeful our parents were okay and they wouldn't be too upset about where we had really been to the past few weeks.
Liz approached the front desk, and being the only one to speak, told the man about our families.
"They'll be happy to see you," he said grabbing a clipboard and leading us down one of the hallways filled with patients.
I felt so numb.
We had all cried our eyes out, slept, then cried some more. I was sleepy and my head hurt. Just by looking at my friends, you could tell they felt the same way.
Ashely suddenly stopped.
We paused, looking at her wondering if she was about to breakdown.
"Wait," she said. "I need to do one thing before we do this."
She pulled a folded paper from her hoodie pocket, and opened it slowly.
"I'll read it out loud," she continued, and we all nodded. More than likely it was from Shawn, and he was good at comfort which is what we all needed a little bit of.
"Just know its for me, so if it says I love you or something," she mentioned. We all nodded.
"Okay," she said taking a breath.
"Dear Ashely, I wrote this for you on your journey away from me and towards your family. I love you with all of my heart, and I hope you love it, but you'll never love it as much as I love you."
"I promise that one day I'll be around, I'll keep you safe, I'll keep you sound. Right now its pretty crazy, and I don't know how to stop or slow it down. Hey, I know there are some things we need to talk about. And I can't stay. Just let me hold you for a little longer now. Take a piece of my heart, and make it all your own so when we are apart, you'll never be alone. You'll never be alone. You'll never be alone. When you miss me, close your eyes. I may be far but never gone. When you fall asleep tonight, just remember that we lay under the same stars. And hey, I know there are some things we need to talk about. And I can't stay. Just let me hold you for a little longer now. And take a piece of my heart, and make it all your own, so when we are apart, you'll never be alone. You'll never be alone. You'll never be alone. You'll never be alone. You'll never be alone. You'll never be alone. And take a piece of my heart and make it all your own, so when we are apart, you'll never be alone. You'll never be alone."
"Love, forever and always, Shawn."
We all looked to one another as Ashely refolded the note and placed it carefully back into her pocket.
Tears welled in her eyes, and ours followed shortly after.
"Okay, we'll all go in to each room together," I ordered. "No girl will be alone, just as Shawn instructed."
They all nodded, and grabbing each other for support, we walked into Liz's parents room.
