The rolling hills of the Shire came into view as the trio made their way closer to the peaceful countryside. For Bilbo, the sight of his homeland was a welcome balm to his weary soul. The journey had been long, and though it had changed him, his heart yearned for the quiet, familiar comfort of Bag End.

A few miles out from the borders, (Y/n) slowed her flight, and gracefully descended. As her wings beat one last time against the air, she touched down softly on the grassy earth. Once they landed Legolas dismounted first, and Bilbo soon followed, his arms full of his things as they continued on foot., (Y/n) shifted back into her normal form, her dragon scales receding, leaving her standing once more with her usual calm elegance.

They walked the last stretch in silence, the landscape growing more familiar with each passing mile. The scent of the Shire—fresh grass, wildflowers, and the faint smell of tilled earth—was as welcoming as a warm hearth fire. It was the first time in months that Bilbo truly felt at ease.

At last, they reached the edge of the Shire. The familiar green hills lay before them, the well-worn paths of home now just a few paces away. It was here that their journey together would end.

(Y/n) came to a stop, and her expression softened as she looked toward the peaceful land. "The borders of the Shire," she said quietly. "It is here I will leave you."

Bilbo paused, looking up at her with a fond smile. "That's a shame," he said. "I quite liked having a dragon around. Seems they bring good luck."

(Y/n) chuckled softly, a glint of amusement in her eyes. "You don't really suppose, do you, that all your adventures and escapes were managed by mere luck?" she asked, her tone both gentle and knowing.

Bilbo's smile faltered for a moment as he realised the deeper meaning behind her words. (Y/n) looked at him, her eyes wise with understanding.

"That ring should not be used lightly, Bilbo," she said, her voice carrying a quiet warning.

Bilbo blinked, taken aback. He shifted his weight, beginning to protest, but before he could speak, (Y/n) raised her hand, silencing him with a gentle smile.

"I mean it" she said, her voice calm yet firm. "Don't use the ring"

Bilbo opened his mouth to respond, but then stopped, realising there was no point in arguing. He stood there for a moment, and then, unexpectedly, a smile crept onto his face.

"Well," he said with a soft laugh, "you do know best."

(Y/n) smiled back, a warmth in her gaze that told him he had nothing to fear from her. They had been through much together, and this secret was simply another part of their shared journey.

(Y/n) knelt down to one knee, bringing herself to Bilbo's height.

"Farewell, (Y/n)," Bilbo said after a moment, his voice soft with gratitude. He stepped forward and hugged her tightly, a gesture of friendship and farewell.

She looked him directly in the eye, her expression full of fondness and respect. "Farewell," she said gently.

Bilbo nodded, his heart full as he turned to walk away. He took a few steps toward the path that would lead him home, but then stopped and turned back, a mischievous glint in his eye.

"You, uh... you needn't worry about that ring," he said, his voice casual. "It fell out of my pocket during the battle. I lost it."

(Y/n) looked at him, her expression unchanging, though a flicker of amusement danced in her eyes. "You're a very fine person, Mister Baggins," she said softly. "And I'm very fond of you. But you're only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all."

Bilbo smiled at her words, knowing the truth in them. He gave a small nod, then turned once more and began walking back toward the Shire. The path home stretched out before him, and for the first time in a long while, he felt the weight of the world begin to lift.

As he disappeared from view, (Y/n) stood up and exchanged a glance with Legolas, who had been quietly watching the exchange. With a silent understanding, they both turned and began their own journey back the way they came.

Though their paths now diverged from Bilbo's, the bond forged between them on this journey would remain. The Shire was safe, and Bilbo was home. And that, in the end, was enough.
