The golden light of the setting sun bathed the ancient halls of Dracagoth in a warm glow, casting long shadows over the stone floors. (Y/n) stood in the grand chamber, her fingers tracing the edge of the map spread out before her. Her heart was heavy with a decision she knew could no longer be delayed.
For weeks now, her dreams had been plagued by visions of darkness—of Barad-dûr rising once more, of the Nine Riders charging forth, and of a shadow greater than anything she had ever faced closing in on Middle-earth. She had seen the orcs crawling like ants over the rebuilding tower of Barad-dûr, and the billowing smoke of Mount Doom had filled her nightmares. The Ring—Bilbo's ring—was at the heart of it all. She could feel its pull even from afar, calling to the dark forces that would seek to reclaim it.
She took a deep breath, her gaze falling to the letter on the table—the invitation to Bilbo Baggins' eleventy-first birthday had seemed like such a small thing at the time. A pleasant escape, a chance to reconnect with an old friend. But now, knowing what she knew, that simple gathering had set into motion events far greater than she could have imagined.
She had to go to Rivendell. She needed Elrond's counsel. More than that, she needed answers. This was no longer just about the Ring, or Bilbo. Something much larger was at stake—something far darker.
The sound of footsteps echoed through the chamber. She looked up to see Legolas approaching, his brow furrowed in concern. He had sensed her unease for days, had seen the shadows in her eyes grow deeper with every passing hour.
"You're leaving, aren't you?" he asked quietly, his voice filled with understanding rather than accusation.
(Y/n) nodded, her eyes meeting his. "I have to, Legolas. Something is coming... something far worse than we've faced before. I can feel it pressing down on me. I've carried this weight for too long. I need to speak with Elrond. He will know what to do."
Legolas stepped closer, his hand reaching out to cup her face gently. "I believe you," he said, his voice steady and sure. "I've felt it too, the darkness growing in the corners of our world. It's why I cannot leave our people for long, but I know you have to go."
(Y/n) closed her eyes, leaning into his touch for a brief moment, drawing strength from his unwavering support. "I should have said something sooner, about the Ring. I knew Bilbo had it—I've known since he left the mountains. But I thought I could protect him from afar, keep the danger at bay. I never imagined it would come to this."
"You couldn't have known how far this would reach," Legolas reassured her. "You've protected Bilbo for years, and now that darkness has found its way to the Shire. But you're doing the right thing now, by seeking Elrond's counsel. You always do what's right."
She smiled faintly, her hand covering his. "I'm glad you believe me. I was worried... I didn't want to burden you with this, but now it feels too large for even me to carry."
Legolas' thumb brushed gently against her cheek. "You're not alone, (Y/n). We face this together. I'll go back to my people, make sure they are safe. While you're gone, Dracagoth will be well-guarded under the Chamberlain, but they will always look to their queen for guidance."
(Y/n) nodded, the tension easing in her chest slightly. "I trust him with the kingdom, but the thought of leaving you... and my people... it weighs on me."
"I know. But I'll be here when you return, and we'll face whatever comes together." He leaned in, pressing his forehead gently to hers. "And I will tell my people to prepare. Darkness may be coming, but we will not face it unprepared."
A long moment passed in silence between them, the weight of their parting heavy but necessary. When they finally stepped apart, Legolas' eyes shone with a mix of love and determination. "Rivendell will be a place of answers. Elrond will know what to do. Trust in yourself, as I trust in you."
(Y/n) nodded, her resolve hardening. She looked down at Hades, her loyal steed, who stood waiting patiently at the entrance to the chamber. The black unicorn snorted softly, as if sensing the journey ahead. She approached him, her fingers brushing through his dark mane.
"I need to get to Rivendell before it's too late. Elrond must know the truth about the Ring, and I must find a way to protect Frodo from the fate that may already be chasing him."
Legolas stepped closer, resting his hand on the hilt of his bow. "I'll make sure the Chamberlain is prepared to take command in our absence. The people will be safe, (Y/n). Focus on what you need to do."
(Y/n) smiled softly, though the worry lingered in her eyes. "Thank you, Legolas. For everything. I won't be long—I promise."
"I'll hold you to that." He smiled back, though the underlying seriousness never left his gaze.
As she mounted Hades, Legolas stood by her side, watching her with the same calm confidence that had always steadied her. "Ride swiftly," he said quietly. "May the wind carry you to Rivendell, and may Elrond's wisdom guide you."
(Y/n) nodded, feeling the weight of the journey ahead pressing down on her shoulders. "I will return soon," she promised again, though a part of her wondered if the world would be the same when she did.
With a final glance at Legolas, she urged Hades forward, riding swiftly out of the gates of Dracagoth. The wind whipped through her hair as the kingdom faded behind her, and with it, the last vestiges of safety she had known.
The road to Rivendell would be long, but it was the only path she could take now. She had waited too long to confront the truth, and now the future of Middle-earth hung in the balance. Whatever answers Elrond could give her, she would find them... and face the darkness that awaited her head-on.
