Loki slowly pushed the big book in his hand to the side. He clenched his teeth and his hands became fists. He reviewed the last couple weeks in his head with astoundment. Recalling his weakened mind and soul, he concluded in his heart that he was less doubtful of his power. The mortal's presence provided his mind a profusion of serenity. He knew very well he was not completely honest with her. But his mission stood and he was determined to see its resolution. Only a fool wouldn't see she was growing fond of him. With each day he spent with her, he came to realize that if the girl had succeeded in taking her life, it would have been a big waste. In all of the millenniums he lived through, no one appreciated him like her or showed any tenderness towards him. He could sense that his ally was to talk to him again, and it would be very soon. The clock was ticking and he knew he'd have to go through with what he had to do when it was time.

"Loki! Are you ready to go out?" he heard the mortal's muffled voice that sounded fairly recovered after what transpired between them.

"Give me a minute" Loki got up from where he was buried under books and reached into the pile of his clothes. He grabbed a black leather jacket in his hand and headed towards the mirror. He could see into the corridor from the open door. As he was fixing his hair up, he spotted a white blur in the corner of his eye.

There she was. Loki once more had trouble believing she was just a human. Her beauty could speak many languages to the scattered pieces of his heart which he couldn't bring himself to put together again. Her eyes were shining brightly and she threw him that big familiar smile. Her white dress was covered with ____(f/c) flowers. He put on the jacket slowly without taking his eyes off her and smiled back.

"You look... beautiful" he said calmly. He could see her cheeks matched the color of her pink handbag.

"Thank you. Let's go" she said. He could almost taste her heavenly smell as she passed him up while going down the stairs.

It was almost time for the sunset. Loki was stumbling as he walked on the pavement alongside her. He'd seen many beautiful places and places of true horror in his life time. But the flames in the sky captured him. These were what the mortals called clouds. He wished it was possible to sit on them.

"It's beautiful isn't it?" the mortal said, staring at the new colors blinking at them in the air. Loki felt a keen stab in his heart as he looked at his pretty companion.

"Yes, she is" he said, keeping his stare on the mortal. Loki stumbled once more. She giggled as they passed by many houses that looked too much alike to him—they were in an unbroken line on each side of them.

"Why are you so disoriented?" she asked with amusement and held onto his arm, perhaps with the intent of keeping him straight.

"Gods can't stumble?" he smirked.

"What is this?!" Loki exclaimed as the sprinkles of the house that they were passing by started to work out of nowhere. The mortal was greatly amused by his reaction. She burst into laughter.

"What madness?!" he threw himself forward to get out of water showering on his clothes. But the mortal pulled him back.

"It's just water, you silly!" she said in a content tone and stared into his eyes.

"See it's not that bad. Why is the God of Mischief afraid of some water?" she enjoyed showing her shrewdness deeply, Loki knew. He snarled but couldn't help himself and joined the mortal in her chuckles.

On the turning corner of the pavement, Loki spotted the sea and looked at its spacious waves calmly hitting the shore. They walked slowly and silently towards the shore where there were many places to sit. Loki encountered many people holding hands; most of them had big smiles on their faces as they passed by. An unfamiliar feeling of regularity came onto him. He no longer was feeling different with the mortal on his arm. They sat on a bench that was deliberately placed in such a perfect position to view the gorgeous display of water. He kept suffering in his heart for what was about to unfold soon. At the moment though...

Loki was happy.

The constant splash of waves reminded him of his childhood. He had brief flashbacks of times he'd visit secret shores in Valhalla, with Thor. They'd never listen to their father to stay in the perimeter he'd always told them to. He sighed and discarded the particular memory from his mind.

"I'm sorry for... everything today" the mortal said bitterly, staring at Loki with pleading eyes.

"It's okay" was all Loki could pull out from his mind. He wanted to say much more, but that would only hurt her in the end.

"Beautiful, huh? Too many couples though" she said as she examined the surroundings and keeping her eyes away from his.

"I didn't know" Loki said, looking into the sea, still troubled in his mind.

"Are there places like this in Asgard?" she asked with a curious and innocent tone. Loki sighed.

"Not really, but there are places like this in the surrounding realms" he crossed his arms and faced the mortal.

"You'd go there... with a girl?" she timidly asked. He could swear she expected a negative answer.

"No, with Thor and our friends" he looked up to the sky, his feelings stirring.

"Have you ever... had a girlfriend?" she asked looking below at her feet. Loki found the question to be rather strange which caused him to stay silent for an extra couple seconds.

"No, I haven't"

"Oh"

"Have you ever... liked someone then?" the girl muttered.

"I'm not very sure, I think I have" Loki said, resting his elbows on his knees, he slightly leaned forward and looked into the water. He felt so foolish to have said what he just said.

"Oh my God! Look! They're selling ice-cream there! Hold on!" the girl almost shouted and ran off to where there was a small crowd of people.

The weird feeling of coldness surrounded Loki; his face became pale as he knew what was happening. He dismissed all the good feelings he'd been nurturing in his broken heart for the time being. The great mass of water melted into darkness, just like everything else around him dissolved into it.
