Chapter 37: November 2, 2088 12:09
ItzelHe was too aware of his surroundings; he didn't drink the drugs I had asked the bartender to serve. The device I have held in my hand was supposed to cause him to drop, paralyzed on the floor for someone else to drag away but it didn't happen. I sent another message to Chava hoping he would answer this time.
Chava: Going
I make a run for it, hoping he's not gone too far away. It's hard to track his steps when he's maybe a solid 2 inches taller than me. If I wasn't wearing five inch heels I would have been able to catch him but running after a trader wasn't on my agenda. I know I wont be able to find him like this. I tap into my watch and note the corners he's taking. Every wanted person can be instantly recognized by the cameras. It's a system that the nerds had set up in exchange for more pay.
I'm able to spot his face on camera 3 which I send over to the nerds. ME: Track his current location and possible routes. When I make it out the door of Club 1 there is drone 143 waiting to report to me. "Possible ending points located." the voice says as a projector displays three locations. " Hackberry avenue bordering the club's and heart's land seems to be where he will end up in 10 minutes. Do you want to me call a taxi""Yes and schedule my taxi to Speed Go. " I say and run off to the edge of the street waiting for a taxi's light to turn rose quartz ,the color assigned to me, the color that is easy to look at compared to the neons that are around me. When it comes time I hop into the taxi and tap my watch on the center console transporting the information of the location I need to be and the directions. Even though the transportation would normally take about 12 minutes to cross where I needed to go with all of the action of this night it will take me at most half the time. Speed Go is a system not to be used lightly, looking out the window I see taxis change paths to avoid my direction, not once do we stop for a red light.
"Ya llegamos-" the driver says to me but I'm out the door before he can get the amount due. I turn my attention to my watch zooming into the stop predicted. This is it. I think standing right where the dot displays. "You gotta be fucking with me" I whisper to myself
Hackberry Avenue isn't the pride and joy of 18th street, out of all its corners and lanes, Hackberry takes the cake for being the most shitty. Even though tonight is the peak of the year, this lane looks as busy as a mundane tuesday. If that Puto was here I would have been able to spot him. Maybe I'm early?
Looking around to find a place with a suitable view from the spot he may come from something catches my attention from the corner of my eye. Accompanied by some noises that draw my attention.
I stay close to the shadows hoping the glitter of dress downing catches onto the light of the dimly lit aly. I reach into the inside of my dress to grab two lenses that I stick onto a small magnifying glass that I grab from my purse.
I am better able to see what is in front of me with the lenses able to adjust to light and distance. One man leans against the wall, seeming to be catching his breath as the other one hovers above him. I should have brought my hear-earings with me. Though the lens is good, it doesn't give me the luxury to listen in. If I were to step any closer I may risk my safety. ME: Chava! Get to my location I think I got him
Inpatients seems to boil up quicker than I would like to admit. Imagine the reaction when news gets out I caught him on my own. I think proudly to myself. A smile seems to raise when my next thought comes out. The boss would surely praise me. The thought is so unbelievably stupid but it pulls a string in my heart.
I knew it was a stupid step to take but my left foot took a step forward, my right foot followed its lead. Soon I hear the audio of the commotion. "What was your plan!" the tall man says to the slouched over body. "you're acting like it can't happen." Even though the man has lost the fight, in his eyes it's not over. Just by hearing this comment I know who it is, the trader.
The tall man loads up another punch but it doesn't make it to it's target and hangs limply at his side as if the tall man tried to make a more reasonable action. Who is he..? I have seen almost every person to walk past the gates of 18th street. With his appearance it would be hard to forget him. He looked like Slender man compared to the trader. His skin looked crystal light, I would have said he looked sickly pale but there seemed to be a...glow about him. That wasn't the right word to use though.. it was like his aura is so strong it comes out in gold color. His hair so black I couldn't see the difference between it and the darkness around it.
ME: Chava! How much longer?
Chava: ONE MINUTE
I take that as my green light, not caring if the two spot me. Now I stand less than 10 feet away from them. The trader turns my direction, almost looking relieved. "H-hey, Pacifier! This fuck is trying to kill me!" I press my hand on the side of my hip. Fuck. I left my back up at home, there is no hard, cold metal on the inside of my skirt.
I put my hand into my purse and pull out the same pencil device as before. "Then turn yourself in to me and you'll live." I say with the pencil outstretched to him. The trader quickly getting into a crawling position before stumbling up to his feet. He outstretches his wrists to me as I start to press the pencil to him.
I didn't see the knife hiding behind his back before it's too late.I jump back as soon as a flash of light warns me of what is to come. I fall back as I hear a scream. My head turned away from the sound but not in time. Both hands of mine are empty. The pencil I once had is now in the eye of the trader, the tip point sticks out of his head.
This is not the first murder I've seen... I'm glad. The speed of it throws me off still. It could have been me dying tonight, the slight pain on my side reminds me of that. I look down at my torn dress; there is only a slight scratch on my skin.
