Chapter - 26
Jimin listened intently, his heart aching as he imagined a younger Yoongi, filled with hope and love for someone who had ultimately broken his heart.
“But things didn’t turn out the way I thought they would,” Yoongi continued, his voice tinged with sadness. “As we got older, our lives started pulling us in different directions. J-Hope got really serious about his career, and so did I. We both wanted different things, and it became harder and harder to make it work. We tried, for a long time, but eventually... we realized it was better to let go.”
Jimin’s eyes softened with sympathy. He could hear the pain in Yoongi’s voice, the lingering hurt that came from losing someone you once loved deeply.
“It wasn’t an easy decision,” Yoongi said, his grip tightening slightly on Jimin’s hand. “And it took me a long time to get over it. Even now, sometimes I wonder if I really have. But Jimin, you need to know that I’m not holding on to him. I’m not in love with him anymore.”
Jimin’s heart swelled with emotion as he listened to Yoongi’s words. He could see now that Yoongi’s hesitation wasn’t about J-Hope, but about the fear of being hurt again, the fear of letting someone in only to lose them.
“Yoongi,” Jimin whispered, his voice filled with affection. “I don’t want to replace him. I just want to be with you. I want to be the one you can count on, the one you can trust. I know it’s not easy, but I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
Yoongi looked at Jimin, his eyes filled with a mix of gratitude and uncertainty. “You’re too good to me, Jimin,” he said softly. “Sometimes I wonder if I even deserve you.”
Jimin shook his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. “You deserve to be happy, Yoongi. We both do. And maybe... maybe we can find that happiness together.”
Yoongi’s heart skipped a beat at Jimin’s words. The idea of finding happiness together, of building something new with Jimin, was both terrifying and exhilarating. He had spent so long protecting himself, guarding his heart, but now, as he looked into Jimin’s eyes, he realized that maybe it was time to take a chance.
“Maybe we can,” Yoongi said, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I’m scared, Jimin. I’m scared of getting hurt again, of hurting you.”
“I know,” Jimin replied, his voice filled with understanding. “But we’ll figure it out, one step at a time. We don’t have to rush anything. Let’s just... see where this goes.”
Yoongi nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. Jimin wasn’t pushing him, wasn’t demanding more than he was ready to give. He was just there, offering his support, his love, and for the first time in a long time, Yoongi felt like he could breathe.
“Thank you,” Yoongi said quietly, his eyes locking with Jimin’s. “For being so patient with me, for understanding.”
Jimin smiled, a genuine, warm smile that made Yoongi’s heart flutter. “I’ll always be here for you, Yoongi. No matter what.”
Without thinking, Yoongi leaned in, closing the small distance between them, and pressed a soft, lingering kiss to Jimin’s lips. It was a kiss filled with promise, with the hope of something new, something that could be beautiful if they were both willing to take the risk.
When they pulled apart, Jimin’s eyes were shining with unshed tears, but this time, they were tears of happiness. He could feel the walls around Yoongi’s heart beginning to crack, and he knew that, with time, they could break them down completely.
“I’m ready,” Yoongi whispered, his voice steady. “To try. With you.”
Jimin’s heart soared at Yoongi’s words, and he pulled him into a tight embrace, feeling the warmth of Yoongi’s body against his own. “That’s all I’ve ever wanted,” he murmured against Yoongi’s shoulder.
As they sat there, wrapped in each other’s arms, the movie continued to play in the background, but neither of them paid it any mind. They were too focused on each other, on the promise of a new beginning, on the possibility of finding love and happiness together.
For the first time in a long time, Yoongi felt like maybe
For the first time in a long time, Yoongi felt like maybe things could be different. Maybe he could allow himself to be vulnerable, to open his heart again. Maybe, just maybe, he could find the happiness he had long thought was out of reach. And with Jimin by his side, he believed that it was possible.
They stayed in each other’s arms, the world outside forgotten as they shared this quiet, intimate moment. Yoongi’s mind was racing with thoughts, emotions he hadn’t fully processed before. Jimin’s gentle touch, his understanding nature, and his unwavering patience had slowly chipped away at the walls Yoongi had built around his heart. And now, those walls were crumbling, revealing a part of Yoongi he had hidden away for too long.
“I never thought I’d feel this way again,” Yoongi confessed, his voice barely above a whisper, as he held Jimin close. “After everything that happened with Hobi, I didn’t think I could let anyone in again. But you… you’re different, Jimin. You make me feel safe.”
Jimin pulled back slightly to look into Yoongi’s eyes, his expression tender. “You don’t have to be afraid anymore, Yoongi. I’m not going anywhere. I’m here, and I want to be with you—just the way you are.”
Yoongi’s heart swelled with emotion, and he couldn’t help but smile softly at Jimin’s words. There was a comfort in Jimin’s presence that Yoongi had never felt before, a sense of belonging that he had longed for. “You’re really something else, you know that?” Yoongi said, his voice filled with affection.
Jimin chuckled, a light blush dusting his cheeks. “I could say the same about you. I’m just glad you’re giving us a chance.”
Yoongi nodded, feeling a warmth spread through him that he hadn’t felt in years. “I am,” he agreed. “I don’t want to lose you, Jimin. Not when I’ve finally found something that feels real.”
Jimin’s smile widened, his eyes shining with unshed tears of happiness. “You won’t lose me, Yoongi. We’ll take this one step at a time, together.”
