Chapter - 24 You deserve better!
Jimin had been running on fumes for days, juggling his demanding schedule between his graphic design work and his job as Yoongi’s assistant. His sleep was erratic, his meals skipped or rushed, and the weight of it all was starting to crush him. But what made it worse, what really gnawed at him, was how Yoongi had been treating him lately—cold, distant, and seemingly indifferent to Jimin’s struggles.
Jimin could feel himself unraveling, but he didn’t know how to stop it. He was always exhausted, constantly trying to keep up with the expectations placed on him, and the lack of support from Yoongi was the final straw. The tension between them had been building up for days, and today it finally reached its breaking point.
Jimin was in the studio, struggling to stay focused as he worked on organizing some files for Yoongi. His head was pounding, his eyes felt heavy, and the screen in front of him was starting to blur. He was so engrossed in trying to fight off his fatigue that he didn’t even notice when Yoongi walked in.
“Jimin,” Yoongi’s voice cut through the haze, startling him.
“Yeah?” Jimin replied, blinking a few times to clear his vision as he turned to face Yoongi.
Yoongi looked at him with a frown, clearly annoyed. “I asked you to have these files ready by now. What’s taking so long?”
Jimin felt a wave of frustration rise within him. “I’m working on it, Yoongi. It’s just taking a little longer than I expected.”
“It’s not like it’s rocket science, Jimin,” Yoongi snapped, his tone harsh. “You need to manage your time better.”
That was it—the last straw. Jimin could feel his patience snap like a brittle thread. All the stress, exhaustion, and hurt he had been bottling up exploded in that moment.
“Manage my time better?!” Jimin repeated, his voice rising. “Do you have any idea how hard I’m trying to keep up with everything? I’m doing my best, Yoongi, but you keep piling more and more on me without even asking how I’m holding up!”
Yoongi’s eyes narrowed, clearly taken aback by Jimin’s outburst. “Jimin, calm down. You’re overreacting.”
“Overreacting?” Jimin laughed bitterly, his hands trembling with anger. “Do you even hear yourself? I’m exhausted, Yoongi! I barely sleep, I barely eat, and you don’t even care! You just sit there, acting like none of this matters, like I’m just some tool you can use whenever you want!”
Yoongi’s eyes flashed with a mix of surprise and anger at Jimin’s words. He wasn’t used to being spoken to like this, especially by someone he was trying to keep at a professional distance. His instinct was to shut down the conversation, to assert his authority.
“You know what, Jimin?” Yoongi said, his voice cold. “If you have such a problem with the way I run things, maybe you shouldn’t be working here. No one’s forcing you to stay.”
Jimin stared at Yoongi, his heart sinking at the words. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. After everything, after all the moments they had shared, Yoongi was just throwing him away so easily.
“Fine,” Jimin said, his voice trembling with hurt. “Maybe I should just leave then.”
He turned on his heel and stormed out of the studio, not caring about the work he left unfinished. He was done. Done with the constant stress, done with trying to please Yoongi, done with everything. As he walked out the door, he heard Yoongi call after him, but Jimin didn’t stop.
“Jimin, wait!” Yoongi’s voice echoed down the hallway, but Jimin kept walking, his pace quickening as he fought back tears.
Yoongi cursed under his breath and rushed after him, his heart pounding with panic. He didn’t mean for it to go this far. He didn’t mean to hurt Jimin, but the words had just slipped out in the heat of the moment. Now, watching Jimin walk away from him, he realized how much he regretted everything he had said.
“Jimin, please!” Yoongi shouted as he caught up with him just outside the building. He grabbed Jimin’s arm, forcing him to stop.
Jimin yanked his arm free and turned to face Yoongi, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. “What do you want, Yoongi? You’ve made it pretty clear that you don’t care about me, so why are you even bothering? You want me to leave and I am leaving now.”
Yoongi flinched at the raw pain in Jimin’s voice. He had never seen Jimin like this—so vulnerable, so hurt—and it made his chest tighten with guilt. “I didn’t mean it like that,” he said, his voice softer now, almost pleading. “I was just... I was angry and frustrated, and I took it out on you. I’m sorry.”
Jimin shook his head, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. “Sorry isn’t enough, Yoongi. You’ve been pushing me away for weeks, acting like I’m nothing more than a burden. I thought... I thought we had something more than just a boss-assistant relationship, but I guess I was wrong. You didn't even care about me a bit.”
Yoongi’s heart sank. He wanted to reach out, to pull Jimin into his arms and apologize a thousand times over, but he hesitated, his own fears and insecurities holding him back. “Jimin, it’s not that... I mean, you’re not a burden. It's all about me.. I just... ”
“You just what?” Jimin interrupted, his voice cracking. “You just don’t care? Or are you too scared to admit that you do?”
Yoongi swallowed hard, his emotions in turmoil. Jimin was right. He was scared—scared of getting too close, scared of being vulnerable again after the pain of his last relationship. But looking at Jimin now, seeing the tears in his eyes, he realized that he was even more scared of losing him.
“I care, Jimin,” Yoongi finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “I care more than you know, and that’s what scares me. I’m... I’m not good at this, at letting people in. I don’t want to hurt you, but I feel like I already have.”
Jimin’s expression softened slightly, but the hurt was still there, etched into every line of his face. “Then stop pushing me away,” he said quietly. “Stop treating me like I’m just some employee you can dismiss whenever you want it gets too hard.”
Yoongi took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. “You’re right,” he said, meeting Jimin’s gaze with a sincerity that he hoped would reach him. “You deserve better, and I’m sorry for how I’ve treated you. I don’t want you to leave, Jimin. I want you to stay... with me.”
Jimin is shocked by Sudden Confession of Yoongi.
