BAGO pa makasagot si Callus sa tanong ni Selene ay naunahan na itong magsalita ni Apollo.

“But before we proceed to help with your plan, may I ask what your intention behind this is, Your Highness? Apologies for my insolence, but what if this is just a trap to bring us down instead?”

Mariing ipinagdikit ni Selene ang mga labi. Sa totoo lang ay naisip din niya ang tungkol sa bagay na ʼyon. Kahit mayroon siyang tiwala sa ikalawang prinsipe ay hindi pa rin maaalis sa kanila ang pagdududa sa totoong intensyon nito.

Callus nodded in understanding. “I know that you would have a concern and doubt, Your Grace. Truth be told, the empress wants me to become the crown prince, then the future emperor of this empire.” He let out a deep breath. “But in order to do so, sheʼs planning to kill my brother and the emperor to take them out of the picture.” He clenched his fists. “And I canʼt let her do that. Besides, I donʼt even have any interest in the throne in the first place.”

Biglang sumeryoso ang ekspresyon ni Selene. “Your Highness...” tawag niya sa atensyon ni Callus.

Napalingon naman ito sa kaniya.

“You said that you canʼt let the two of them die. But will you be okay if your mother is the one to die in the process instead?”

Bumalatay ang lungkot sa mukha ni Callus bago ito napatungo.

“The empress doesnʼt really treat me like her son. To her, Iʼm just a pawn that she can use to gain more power. From the very start, she desires nothing but power. And when the time comes that I will no longer be useful to her, I wouldnʼt be surprised if she cast me aside as well.” Thereʼs a hint of sadness and bitterness on his voice.

Nilingon naman ni Selene si Apollo at masuyo itong tinanguan. Somehow, she can really feel that Callus is serious and has already decided to betray his own mother.

Apollo then turned to Callus. He now also looked convinced.

“Alright. What are you planning to do?”

Sa pagkakataong ʼyon ay marahas na napaangat ng tingin si Callus sa kanila. Bakas na sa mukha nito ang determinasyon.

“I would serve as a spy to them. Sa ngayon ay iniisip pa rin ng empress na kakampi nila ako. It would be an advantage because I would be able to know their plan and then relay it to you.” Napakunot ito ng noo na tila ba biglang mayroong naalala. “Aside from that, they have this weird old woman with them. Hindi ko alam kung bakit pero hindi maganda ang kutob ko sa kaniya. I could feel a dark aura around her.”

“Weird old woman? Do you know her name?” she asked curiously.

Umakto namang nag-iisip si Callus. “I only heard the empress say her name once. If Iʼm not mistaken, her name is Vera.”

Kinagat ni Selene ang ibabang labi. Tama nga ang hinala niya.

“We have yet to meet her, but we know her. Though she would not become a threat to us since Veraʼs cousin, Senia, is on our side. She will be the one to take care of that weird old woman. Right now, all we need to do is gather evidence against the empress and Adeline with the help of this one.” Mula sa kaniyang bulsa ay walang pag-aalinlangan niyang inilabas ang visual stone.

Namamangha namang napatitig doon ang ikalawang prinsipe. “The visual stone? It would really be a big help to us!”
