Chapter 49: The enemies beneath our feet.
A truck travelling through the American roadways:
It was the dead of night and two men sat in the front seats of a white van. The van was by no means a good vehicle and functioned only at a bare minimum of how it should. The best way to describe it was a van you'd joke was up to no good, and this van was exactly that or so it led to believe. The two men faced the road ahead, one taller with a cigarette in his hands and the other shorter. The most exceptional part of them being the slight purple shimmer to their eyes.
"So...," the shorter man driving the car began, "it's nice being the good guys huh?"
The taller man took a breath of his smoke, "I don't think we were the 'bad' guys before."
"We kidnapped and killed people for money...."
"We did what Callus forced us to do." The taller man breathed in his cigarette, opening the van window and blowing the smoke outside. "I don't think that marks us as being the 'bad' guys."
"I guess you're right, we didn't really have that much of a choice, did we?"
"Nope," the taller man chuckled. "Though you are right. It feels nice doing a 'good' thing after all we were put through."
"Yup," the shorter of the two smiled. "The Princess has given us a new life."
"Our leader asked not to be referred to as Princess."
"Right, just a habit. Though..., I'm surprised she trusted us to work on this mission. Especially considering we were the ones who kidnapped her disciples before."
"We did," the taller man smirked before continuing, "but if you think about it. It was our actions on that day that led to the Violet Oath being freed."
"When you put it that way, I guess you're right."
A third voice entered the fray, coming from the back of the van where an adolescent girl was tied up, "Really you two? Don't even joke that you're our Clan's saviours. If anything, it was my decision to lead Ardent back to Zen that helped her win the fight against Callus."
The shorter of the two men rolled his eyes, "You just love to bring that story up don't you Stella."
"Yeah, cause it's awesome," the young women raised her chest proudly. Compared to her usual flare of colour and punk rock clothing, she looked like an entirely different person. That was entirely the point however as she was currently disguised as one, Charlotte Frazer, an up-and-coming young actor.
"You're meant to be unconscious," the taller man grunted. "Go lie down again, we'll be there soon."
"Right, right," Stella laid back on the floor of the van, slumping her body and completing the act. A moment of silence passed, and she suddenly rose back up, "Oh and if you two are wondering why you're on this mission, it's because of my recommendation. You two better not mess this up for me."
"Just lie back down," the taller man put out his cigarette. It wasn't the first time she had said as such.
Ten minutes passed and the van began to turn down a lonesome road, reaching a wall that marked the start of a large property. The front gate was manned by security who flagged them down as they slowed to stop.
The shorter of the two men rolled down his window, "Delivery for Jasper Cardel." He paused, almost forgetting the next part of the phrase. "We've just come back from fishing and caught a beauty."
