The doorbell echoes through the quiet house, bringing me out of my daze. I didn't feel like answering it nor talking to anyone, but I forced myself to get up.It's already been many days since I've talked to san. But time dragged on, making it feel like it's been over a month.
I opened the door to see Wooyoung standing there, bundled in a warm jacket as Winter was quickly approaching. He held a box in his arms, within it was a scarf, some books, and San's laptop bag. My chest tightened at the sight of them.
"Wooyoung? What are you doing here?"
"Hey, Leo," he said, smiling lightly. "Hope I'm not bothering you," He held up the items in his hands, "San left these behind on his desk at the office. Thought I'd come by and drop them off."
I stared at the box, my hands moving to take it from him. San's cologne was still faintly present on the scarf, making my throat feel tight.
"Left them?" I furrowed my brows
"Yeah," Wooyoung said with a shrug, "I guess he was in a rush."
I froze, gripping the box like it might slip through my fingers. A bad feeling crept up my spine.
"Rushing for what?" I asked, looking up at him
Wooyoung paused, "You know, for the trip."
The word hit me like a slap, "What trip?"
His smile faltered. He blinked at me, his mouth opening like he was about to explain, but then stopped, "Leo... the business trip. Did you not know about it?"
"Know what?" My voice came out shaky as my heart was racing
He faltered for a moment, "He didn't tell you?"
"Just tell me Wooyoung." I placed the box down before stepping closer
Wooyoung hesitated, his eyes darting to the items he had just handed me before meeting mine again. His expression softened, which made my stomach tighten in a knot.
"He took up the job offer.. the one abroad." he said slowly, like he was forced to say it
"Abroad?" The word came out as a whisper
"Yes." He responded with a quiet voice
It suddenly felt like someone had choked me. The air around me seemed to close in. "He told me he's just taking time apart." I began to explain, mostly to myself
Wooyoung didn't say anything. He just looked at me, his face expression filled with pity.
"How long will he be there?" I asked
He hesitated again, "I'm not exactly sure."
"Please Wooyoung."
He contemplated whether to answer or not, before sighing. "At least a year or two."
My whole body went cold. My hands felt numb. My whole body fell numb.
"He didn't tell me," I whispered, more to myself than to Wooyoung. "He didn't even tell me."
"I'm so sorry, Leo." Wooyoung said softly
He pulled out his phone, muttering something under his breath as he dialed. I barely even noticed his actions as all I could think about was the fact that San was really gone now.
"-Don't you think you're going too far?" Wooyoung spoke, his voice sharp and filled with anger
I couldn't hear what San was saying on the other end, but Wooyoung's expression darkened.
