"Come sit here," I led them inside the house, "San will be a bit late. He has to finish up work.""That's alright, the day is long. Besides we're staying here for a day or two." My mom looked to Ian, my stepfather, as they took a seat
"Yeah, if you don't mind." Ian chuckled
"Of course not, you're always welcome here."
Ian and my mother went on with their conversation making me excuse myself to call San once again. I rang his number for the first time but it went unanswered. I dialed again the second time, hoping he'd pick up soon, but I guess he was still too busy to answer. With a defeated sigh, I dropped my arm and headed back to the living room to stall some more time for him.
Midway, my phone began to ring. I immediately answered without even checking the name.
"San, when are you coming?"
"I'm sorry I really don't think I'll be able to finish up my work any time soon. How about we reschedule with your parents?"
"Is it really nothing you can't leave for tomorrow? I mean just excuse yourself for today."
"I can't I'm sorry Leo, something went wrong with our recent work so we're having an emergency meeting, we might be here all night."
I went quiet knowing there was nothing he could do, "alright then," I sighed, "let's reschedule for tomorrow if you can."
"I'll be there, I promise. I'm sending the flowers with Wooyoung. Please give them to your parents for me, tell them I sincerely apologize for making them wait."
"I will, take care of yourself okay? Make sure you stop for a break."
"I will, I love you."
I held back a smile upon hearing that, "say that to me in person."
He chuckled, "I will. I've got to go now, I'll see you later Leo."
"Bye bye." I grinned as I ended the call
Ian and my mother both turned to me when I walked into the living room. They kept their eyes on me even as I sat down. They probably had overheard me.
"Is San not coming?" My mom asked
"San wants to apologize to you both for not being able to show up today. There was an emergency at work that held him up."
"Well, I guess there's not much he can do since it's his job." Ian nodded
"That's a shame, but we're here tomorrow so tell him no worries. We can catch up with you in the meantime. What's been holding you up these days?" My mom smiled
"Or who?" Ian raised his brow teasingly
"Nothing," I chuckled, "I mean there wasn't much that happened since you were last here."
"Is San always this busy by the way?" My mom asked
I went quiet for just a second, "no, not usually. I mean it's only happened once or twice, but I understand, he's serious about his career. Not that it has ever affected our relationship." I put my hand up in defense
This feels a bit awkward.
"San is a great person in my eyes. I think he balances his work and personal life nicely." Ian nodded while looking at my mom who simply nodded with him
"Yeah." I sighed
The doorbell rang right then, indicating Wooyoung must've arrived.
"Could that be San?" My mom asked
