Since the start of this week, I have been noticing a difference in Sae-byeok's behaviour and I have a little guess as to what has caused it. Monday, a new girl walked into our history class. It was hard to notice the change, but I did, she sat a little taller, and she focused a little closer. My only question was why. 

Now it's Thursday, and I've seen her make an effort, but she never makes an effort to do anything. She's dressing a little nicer, and fixing her hair a little too often. She waits at her locker just a minute longer than normal and watches the hallway closer than she ever has. All for her, I caught her name a few times, Y/n. 

She's pretty and smart from the looks of it. She has started fitting into our school well, already finding a group of friends and trying out for the volleyball team. Sae-byeok has never cared for sports, until now. 

It's odd, watching someone change such small details in the hopes of growing closer to someone they don't even have the confidence to talk to. Sae-byeok never wants to talk to anyone, how on earth would she be able to start a conversation with this girl? but something tells me she will find a way, something to push her, something to encourage her, a feeling to guide her. Perhaps she has already found that feeling, but doesn't have the ability to understand it yet, or what to do with it. 

I hurry out to lunch to secure our normal seats outside, to my surprise Sae is already out there eating her lunch. I take a seat and begin to unwrap my sandwich. "I don't think you have ever made it out here this early. You normally take like 10 years at your locker" I joke to her, she rolls her eyes playfully at me and throws a chip in her mouth. "Shut up," she says softly before something catches her eye. I turn to see Y/n walking past us with her friends, she makes eye contact with Sae and gives her a gentle smile, one that I know might cause her to have a heart attack. 

"You finally talked to her?" I say curiously as I bite down into my sandwich, "Mhm, in our biology class... well we got paired together for an assignment so I kinda had to but" I know what's going through her head. Being friends with her for this long, I know what to expect from her and I can guess she is replaying every moment of that lesson in her head, thinking what she could have said differently, if she sat straight enough, if there was anything on her face, if her handwriting looked neat enough. The stuff she knows Y/n wouldn't have even noticed but still in her mind could make or break what happens between them. 

"You're crushing hard aren't you" I chuckle, Sae-byeok looks up at me. "I wouldn't say that" she shrugs, playing it cool. But I watch as her eyes trail back to Y/n, how her face softens instantly. "Then what would you say?" I question her "I would say... that I think she's pretty" I raise my eyebrows at her, and her eyes never leave Y/n until she realises what she said. "Cool. She's pretty cool." She saves herself. Sae-byeok never accepts feelings for people, and I know she is not about to admit anything to me.

I can see it though, she's falling in love. It's a dangerous game, but I know she's willing to play.
