Chapter 37 (Sir Nighteye Agency)

The next day in class Aizawa talked about work studies again. He explained that the faculty still doesn't think work studies are a good idea, but others thought they wouldn't be able to raise us into strong heroes with that protective outlook. So, they compromised and are letting us still do them, but only if they have a proven track record.

"So choose one with a proven track record, otherwise, you won't be taking part.. Yumi." Aizawa called me out.

I perked up at my name.

"You've gotten a work study request from the Sir Nighteye Agency." Aizawa finished. Everyone gasped and congratulated me. I was wide eyed.

'Sir Nighteye? Like, All Might's former sidekick, Sir Nighteye?' I thought.

"Will you accept?"

"Yeah!" I said cheerfully.

Back at the dorms, Mirio Togata showed up to talk to me.

"Hey! Takayumi, right?" he asked with a big smile and loud voice.

"Yeah." I answered.

"Nice! I'm sure you already know, but you've been requested for the Sir Nighteye Agency. I do my hero work study there!" Togata said.

I gasped. "Whoa, really?"

"Yup! I just came to tell you the address that we'll meet up at this weekend and that Izuku Midoriya will be joining us!" Togata said.

"Wait, Izuku got requested too?" I asked, surprised.

"No, but he wants me to introduce him to Sir."

"Oh, okay. That's cool." I said.

Togata gave me the address and left.

'Huh. So I guess Izuku will be joining me this weekend.' I thought.

I went to Kacchan's room after that and told him the news. I sat in his desk chair while he sat on his bed.

"Oh, yeah! I'm so pumped for my work study! Sir Nighteye is so stern. He's gonna be so much fun to tease!" I said snickering. Kacchan growled.

"I don't want to hear about you getting ahead of me!" he yelled. I laughed.

"Awww. Are you still mad cause you won't be able to do a work study?" I got up and sat next to him on his bed to rub his back. "There, there." I said in a babying voice.

Kacchan yelled and I laughed.

"Oh! I meant to tell you...Turns out, Izuku is trying to work for Sir Nighteye's Agency as well." I said.

Kacchan glared at me.

I tilted my head. "What's wrong?" I asked.

"You're gonna be working with Deku?" He asked sternly.

"Well, we still don't know yet. He could get turned down." I said.

Kacchan punched his hand, firing off mini explosions. "He'd better get turned down. See if I'll let the nerd work with my girlfriend." he growled.

I blushed. It was my first time hearing him call me his girlfriend. Then I smirked when I realized what he was saying.

"Jealous much?"

"What! Jealous? I'm not jealous! I just don't want you to work with that idiot, not without me, at least!" Kacchan yelled back.

"Yeah. That's the definition of jealousy." I said. "Don't worry. It's not like I'm gonna do anything fishy behind your back. You can trust me. Aren't I yours and you're mine?" I said.

"Yeah, well. You just better remember that!"

"No problemo! You can count on me!" I said cheerfully.

The weekend came and Izuku and I went to the Nighteye Agency together and Kacchan and Todoroki went to their provisional licensing training.

We stood outside of a big building with Togata.

"Well, this is it. Sir Nighteye's Agency." Togata said. Izuku was trembling in fear.

"Easy man! Try to take a breath! Loosen up!"

"Yeah! Be like me!" I said.

"You shouldn't be too loose though, Takayumi. Cause, Sir's actually a pretty strict guy."

"I'm fully aware! He's a hero famous for being hard on others as well as himself! His gaze is so harsh that it makes me shiver everytime I see him on tv! He's so severe!" Izuku said.

"That's absolutely true. But there's a side of him that the press never gets to see. If you wanna be acknowledged by him, here's a tip. You need to do one important thing in this meeting...You gotta make him laugh!" Togata said.

Me and Izuku were dumbfounded.

"What?" I said. Togata walked inside and we followed him up the spiraling stairs.

"Wait, what does that mean?" Izuku asked.

"Exactly what it sounds like. Sir's a strict guy, but he really values laughter for some reason. It's like irony or something, I think." Togata said.

"Huh. Who would've thought? So, this guy just gets a kick out of laughing." I said.

"Sounds like someone I know." Izuku mumbled.

Togata laughed. "Takayumi, you should be fine since Sir asked for you personally. You're a real riot!

But for you, Midoriya, the most I can do is introduce you to him. Sir's the only one who'll decide if he can use you or not. I wish I could help you more, but that's all I can do. From here on out, you'll have to find your own way to make Sir acknowledge you."

"I've been meaning to ask you, why is that you seem to know so much about me even though you just met me?" Izuku asked.

"What are you talking about? I don't know you at all. But I do know you have a crazy ambitious goal and you're fighting to turn it into reality. And wanting to help someone who's in trouble is basically heroin 101, am I right?" Togata said.

Izuku and I smiled.

"Yeah!" I said.

We stopped in front of a brown door.

"Here we are! He's just beyond this door. If you want to get stronger...then walk on through!"
