Looking at him from such a distance, Lisa noticed that little Hyunjin was much skinnier than he was a year ago.

What were once the fair and soft cheeks bouncy with some baby fat had turned into a pointy little face.

"Do you still remember me, little Hyunjin?" Lisa asked him softly.

Little Hyunjin looked up at her but did not say anything.

Next to them, Grandma Yu was very surprised at the unfamiliar pretty girl who appeared out of nowhere.

Stopping what she was doing, Grandma Yu said, "This child does not talk." She then asked Lisa, "How do you know his name?"

Lisa knew that the old grandmother was very nice to Hyunjin, so she answered her honestly, "I had run into him and his dad and helped them out in the past."

She paid the woman in heels for Dahai last time at the mall.

Hearing that Lisa had helped the Hwang father and son before, she said to her, "You are such a kind person, little girl."

In the old lady's eyes, anyone who would help out someone else was a nice person.

"Are you here looking for Hwang Dahai?" Grandma Yu scratched the top of her head with the needle and said, "Hwang Dahai had some alcohol and had already fallen asleep. If you need to talk to him, you will have to come back in the evening. That is probably when he will wake up."

"No, I am here to check up on Little Hyunjin. Why is he locked outside his house?" Lisa frowned.

"Every time after Hwang Dahai drinks, he'd either hit the child or lock him out." Grandma Yu looked at little Hyunjin pitifully. "It's better that he is locked out; at least he won't be beaten. My only worry is that with him being so young, he might be kidnapped."

As such, every time Grandma saw little Hyunjin being locked out, she would bring her little stool out and sew while keeping an eye out on him.

Lisa's eyes dimmed a little. She saw the bruises on little Hyunjin's arm.

Grandma Yu sighed. "I have no idea what is wrong with this child. He never cries when he gets beaten. That might be why Hwang Dahai has no qualms about beating him. How pitiful."

Grandma Yu lived alone. Her children worked out of town. She therefore had time to look after little Hyunjin to a certain extent.

Lisa knew why little Hyunjin did not cry when he was beaten. He was a lot like little Jungkook.

"Us neighbors would sometimes talk to Hwang Dahai about this. However, it's his family business after all. There's only so much that we can say or do."

Grandma Yu sighed again and said, "Xiao Hwang's mother ran off, leaving him behind. That's why Hwang Dahai takes it all out on the child."

"Grandma, have you met Hyunie's mother before? Do you still remember what she looks like?" asked Lisa.

She had sent someone to look into it. Hwang Dahai and little Hyunjin's mother did not register their marriage, and as such, there were no photos to be found. It was not easy to find out much about little Hyunjin's mother in a short period of time.

Grandma Yu thought about it some. "She's somewhat tall. I remember that she has a mole next to the corner of her mouth. She has a birthmark by the corner of her mouth and a red one by her brow as well."

"She was skinny. Her nose was not very tall. That is all I remember. She rarely showed up in front of us, so I don't remember much more about her."

Lisa nodded. "Thank you, Grandma."

At least she had found out that little Hyunjin's mother has a birthmark next to the corner of her mouth and a red one by her brow.

Lisa then looked over at Hyunjin. The kiddo was in a daze. She wondered what was crossing that little brain of his.

His eyes were black and very round. She could see her reflection in his eyes, but she knew that he wasn't looking at her.
