I was tired of the lies and the secrets. I was tired of the hidden agendas and plots..... I just wanted to know the truth. Maybe that would help me take my mind off what I did.... I killed someone.... I shook the thought from my head because I didn't want to think about it, but it seemed like the more I tried to ignore it the more it played over and over. I saw Legend struggling against the multiple dudes, I wasn't faring too much better myself but when I saw the dude trying to hit Legend with the brick again, all thought left my body and I just moved. I don't even remember pulling the trigger, I just remember him falling and the others running. The truth of the matter is that I didn't feel bad about it, and that's what scared me more than anything... I just felt like I was protecting someone I cared about, someone I love and there was a small part of me that felt like I was making up for not being able to save my parents. Again I shook my head and turned my attention to Chae, I was just glad she wasn't there when it happened because if something would've happened to her..... Legend called my phone again and I decided to turn it off, yeah he was going to be pissed but as I've stated I was tired of the games... I just wanted answers and there was one person who seemed to be at the center of everything, one person who seem to know all the secrets that were being held and I knew I needed to talk to him face to face in order to get the answers I was looking for.
"Are you sure you wanna do this Cody?" LaChae asked, I sat there staring out the window and thinking about everything that had happened over the last two to three hours. The answer was simple, I knew this person held many of the answers I was seeking and I also knew he would give it to me straight.
"Yeah, I'm sure.... in fact, I don't wanna put it off any longer. Plus Osian just got here." I said noticing Osian's car pulling in behind Chae's. Before we got out of the car Chae checked her taser but my gut was telling me we weren't going to need it... despite everything I still trusted him and knew he wouldn't hurt me, Chae, or Osian.
"Legend has been blowing up my phone for the past twenty minutes, I've been ignoring him but eventually you're going to have to tell him what we're doing... knowing him he's probably going to be pissed but...." Osian shrugged and I checked my phone before remembering that I had turned it off. "Anyways, Kendu is waiting for us... I called him right before I got here.... Are you ready?" He asked and I nodded. The three of us walked up to the apartment and before we could even knock, Kendu stepped outside and it was difficult to read his face.
"I heard what happened. Are you good?" Kendu asked letting us into his apartment, we sat down and Kendu pulled out a bottle of tequila and sat it on the table in front of us. "Well if I'm going to tell y'all everything I know... we're definitely going to need some drinks... Sorry Chae, so where do you want me to start?" Kendu asked.
"The beginning seems like a logical place to start." Chae said and Kendu laughed.
"True, but whose beginning? I mean there are so many moving parts that culminate to how we got to this point... it's kinda hard to pick a start because who even knows what caused all this.... But I guess I'll start with your parents since they're the central piece to this tale." Kendu said looking at me.
"Hold on..." I said pouring myself a drink and downing it before pouring another.
"Cody, do you know what your parents did for a living?" Kendu asked.
"My mom was a teacher and my dad was a contractor...." I said and Kendu nodded.
"Bam told you about the picture he saw on that lady's desk right? The picture with your parents, Bam's dad, J'Wayne, Osian's brother Octavian, and Epic's wife Eileen as well as his brothers-in-law Edmund and uhh..... Anyways, the truth is your dad, while he was a contractor.... he also had a side business. From what I understand he was looking to build a city, with the help of a few local drug dealers." Kendu said and the more he talked the colder it felt in the room, everything in me was telling me to defend my dad but I also knew I needed to listen. "And that's where my family comes in....." Kendu said.
