The bed sheets felt smooth and comfortable against Tessia's skin as she lay in bed. While she felt totally relaxed, she also felt sore. Lucky for her, though, today was a rest day. She remembered the relief she felt yesterday when Caera announced that they would take one day of rest for every six days of training. As Bairon put it, it was so the cadets got proper rest since they didn't want them dying.
"How nice of them," Tessia whispered to herself sarcastically.
She rolled onto her side and nestled her head into her soft pillow. With a small smile, she admitted to herself that at least the people at Dracthyria had comfortable beds. Closing her eyes, Tessia had every intention of falling back asleep. However, a moment later, her eyes flung open at the sound of someone knocking on her door.
Tessia grumbled, wondering who was knocking on her door and why. She didn't know what time it was, but she had a feeling that it was very early. She was supposed to be resting and didn't want to be disturbed. After the person on the other side of the door knocked a second time, sounding more impatient, Tessia grumbled as she stood up.
She felt the cold air of her room caress her bare legs as she was wearing nothing but a gray tank top and her underwear. She strode over to the door and opened it just a crack to slip her head through.
On the other side of the door, Lilia was standing there with her arms crossed. She was already dressed in her black leather gear, with her hair neatly braided. Lilia raised a brow, "Still in bed, I see."
Tessia sighed, as she had a feeling she wasn't going to be resting as much as she anticipated. "Well, this was our day off from training."
"I know," Lilia said flatly. She walked back and leaned against the wall behind her. "I've been sent her to fetch you."
Tessia raised a brow, "Fetch? By who?"
"The Queen."
Tessia's brows rose, and she felt her stomach knot. She hadn't seen the queen ever since she arrived in Dracthyria. In all honestly, she had thought that the queen had forgotten about her.
"The Queen?" Tessia repeated, unable to hide the surprise in her tone. "Why?"
Lilia shrugged, "Don't know. Now, get dressed. It's best not to keep her waiting. The Queen isn't known for being a patient individual."
Tessia sighed and looked down at herself, "I just got up. I need some time to wash up." Tessia looked back to Lilia, who stared at her blankly.
After a moment of silence, Lilia shook her head, "What the hell are you waiting for? My Permission? Or perhaps you want me to scrub you, Princess? Hurry up and get ready."
Tessia shot Lilia an irritated gaze before she slammed her door shut. "God's, she can be a bitch."
"I heard that! We have great hearing, you know!"
Tessia rolled her eyes before she walked over to her restroom. She quickly stripped down and got washed up. She tried to be as quicky as possible as she exited the shower, dried herself off, and got dressed into her apparel, which consisted of black leather armor. She didn't have time to braid her hair, so she quickly tied it back into a ponytail.
Once she was done, Tessia opened the door to her room to see Lilia leaning against the wall while casually tossing one of her daggers into the air.
Lilia caught her dagger by the hilt and looked at Tessia with a blank expression. "About time," She said as she slid her dagger into her thigh sheath. She began to walk down the hall, "Follow me."
Tessia rolled her eyes at Lilia's rudeness before closing her door and following her. As they entered the great hall, she was surprised to see how many people were already awake and moving around.
"Seem's like everyone here is an early bird."
"Or, you're just lazy and like to lie in bed," Lilia shot back.
Tessia's eyes snapped to Lilia and narrowed, "Anyone ever tell you that you have an attitude problem?"
Lilia stopped and turned to look at Tessia, who was glaring at her with her arms crossed. Lilia narrowed her eyes, "First off, watch how you speak to me. You haven't earned the right to be here, Princess. And secondly, my attitude is my charm." Her lips curved slightly, "So I've been told."
Tessia's brows rose, wondering if that was a jest that had just come out of Lilia's mouth. She watched as Lilia turned and began to walk off, and Tessia followed.
They made their way through Dracthyria until they finally reached the throne room, where two riders were standing guard.
The two guards looked at Lilia simultaneously before respectfully bowing their heads, "Princess."
Tessia's eyes widened in shock, and her eyes settled on Lilia.
"Open the doors," Lilia commanded.
The guards nodded and did as she commanded. They opened the doors, and Tessia silently followed Lilia into the throne room, still shocked by the sudden reveal. When the doors closed behind her, she finally broke her gaze from Lilia and looked up.
Her eyes fell on the queen and king of Dracthryia, who were casually sitting in their thrones. However, it was the individual standing in front of them that caught her immediate attention.
Arthur stood poised, his hands at the small of his back. He was dressed in his fighting leathers, but this time, he was outfitted with his weapons. He had daggers strapped to his thighs, the small of his back, and across his chest, and a black stick was strapped across his back.
Tessia's eyes looked Arthur up and down, something she had found them doing quite frequently this past week. Not because she found him attractive or anything, but because she was assessing him in case she had to fight him. Yes... that was the reason...
Arthur was currently looking back at Lilia and Tessia as they approached, and Tessia quickly averted her gaze once their eyes met.
"Ah, Lilia," Alice began, and she smiled slightly. "You've finally arrived."
Lilia stopped beside Arthur, "My apologies for being late." She turned her head slightly, "Someone took their sweet time getting ready."
Tessia's eyes narrowed on Lilia but shot to Arthur as she heard him scoff. But to her surprise, he was looking down and seeming to try and hide a grin.
"No worries," Alice began before she looked at Arthur. "Thank you for the report. Have the wing leaders have their squadrons continue to scout and report."
Arthur nodded, "Yes, Mother."
Arthur elegantly and professionally turned, shooting Tessia a gaze before he walked off.
Tessia's unconsciously watched as Arthur left the room and the doors closed behind her.
It wasn't until a few seconds passed that Tessia noticed the room was silent. She looked forward, and her eyes widened, seeing all eyes were on her.
In a monotone voice, Alice spoke, "Hello, Tessia."
