Tessia and the other cadets dashed forward without hesitation, heading directly for the maze. As they passed the entrance, Tessia quickly looked around, conducting a quick assessment. She noticed how she had three possible choices on where to go: straight, left, or right.
"Eleanor, where to?!" Elijah quickly yelled.
Eleanor stopped, her head on a swivel as she looked around. "I, uh, I don't know! I've never done this before!"
"Fuck this!" Lucas yelled and ran left.
"I'm going straight!" Claire yelled and ran off, with Theo following.
Elijah stood there for a moment, seeming to contemplate, before he followed Claire and Theo.
"I'm going right," Tessia said with determination.
Tessia dashed off, heading right, hearing Eleanor running behind her. She passed through the right entrance, seeing that she had another choice to make: left or straight.
"Go left!" Eleanor yelled.
Tessia didn't hesitate and turned left, seeing that she entered a straightaway that led to a T-intersection.
"When we get to the end, turn right!" Eleanor yelled.
Tessia looked over her shoulder with a raised brow, "I thought you said you've never done this?!"
Eleanor smirked and shrugged, "Pfft. You think my overly protective brother wouldn't have given me every advantage possible? Please. I can do this maze with my eyes closed."
Tessia stopped, which seemed to surprise Eleanor. Turning to face Eleanor, Tessia looked at Eleanor with confusion, "Then why are you helping me and not the others?" Her brows furrowed, "Don't tell me it's not some 'princess' need to stick together' bullshit."
Eleanor shook her head, "That's not it." She genuinely smiled, "It's because I think of you as a friend."
Tessia's brows rose, and her lips went slightly agape. A soft chuckle escaped her lips, and she smiled, "Same here." She quickly turned and began to run, "Right?"
"Right!" Eleanor yelled back.
Tessia turned right and ran as fast as she could, listening to Eleanor's directions.
As they were running, they were approaching another T-intersection when Eleanor yelled, "There should be a trip wire ahead, just before we enter the intersection!"
"Got it!" Tessia yelled, her eyes scanning the floor.
Tessia's eyes snapped to the trip wire, which would've been easily missed if she hadn't been looking for it. Part of her felt like she was cheating with Eleanor's help, but she considered this more of using what was available to her.
Approaching the trip wire, Tessia quickly jumped over it, when she was suddenly hit with a massive blast of wind. Tessia yelped as the wind pushed her back, and the wind was knocked out of her as she fell to the ground and rolled to a stop.
"Tess!" Eleanor said, jumping over the trip wire. She looked in Tessia's direction, seeing her beginning to get up. Eleanor's brows furrowed, and her head snapped in the direction the blast of wind came from. Her brows raised, "Caera?"
Caera walked forward slowly, placing one foot in front of the other, as her crimson pearls were locked on Tessia. Caera stopped, standing a few feet from Eleanor, while staring at Tessia, "You should be running, Ellie."
Tessia got to her feet, and she looked at Caera with an irritated expression, "Waiting for me, are we?"
Caera smirked, "It didn't take a genius to know you'd use Eleanor to get out of the maze."
